Can poker be used as a teaching aid?

I think teaching poker to 7th graders, or any children is not a good thing. There are many other and better ways to teach math.
 
i dont believe poker belongs in school , despite the many skills that could be taught : math calculation , patience , discipline observation and deduction ,etc . its still a bit too controversial and could promote unhealthy gambling behavior .
 
You can use poker to teach about combinations ans statistics, but as the game has a lot of luck involved, I think chess is a better option to teaching in schools.

In my opinion, Hold'em will expand the knowledge of schoolchildren in the study of mathematics, but there are parents who will be against it, for this it is necessary to create a study group for Hold'em lovers and conduct classes after school.
 
I would be ,of course,against that suggestion.There is a risk this game could become an addiction to these kids.Don´t forget we are talking about money There must be better ways to teach them about statistics.

It may be a great and entertained way to to teach, but I don't think it would be a good idea to promote gambling to children.
 
It's a fun way to learn some different concepts about maths, and it can show you hom maths can be useful outside of the classroom
 
Yes, I really like the idea, as probabilities can be applied to mathematics... but only with tokens with no monetary value... play money.
