I play for fun. It's still a long way from being my profession, but you never know what tomorrow will bring. Who knows?

Poker is mainly about entertainment, but everyone hopes to qualify for a major tournament and have a deep run for a big score. Even if that happened, though, I'd still see it as more of a hobby than a full-time occupation

Poker is a fun game, but I ask, would it still be fun if there were no tempting prizes?

I like to spend my free time playing, and winning money is a joy and a pleasant bonus, losing is a disappointment, all these are emotions that poker attracts us with.

Good morning, everyone.

Whenever we ask a question related to poker, the answer will almost always be: it depends. So, let's analyze this question.

Is poker a profession or entertainment? It depends. For some people, it's entertainment; for others, it's a profession.

Since poker is one of the most played card games in the world, in many countries people play simply for fun. Many people work all week and, when they get home, they deposit $10 on a poker site, or $50, depending on their financial situation, and just have fun. They play a cash game, a Spin & Go, or a tournament, but only for entertainment, without the intention of making money.

On the other hand, there is a small percentage of people who see poker as a profession. They study the game, analyze databases, study ranges, boards, use solvers, and constantly work on improving their technical skills. Their goal is to make a living from poker, treating the game as a job and aiming to make a consistent profit over the long term.

Especially in very wealthy countries. Germany, for example, is one of the richest countries in Europe, and I see many players from there. I don't know what it's like at the higher stakes, but at the lower stakes, my impression is that Germany has a lot of recreational players. Compared to other countries, I feel that the percentage of recreational players is higher.

Don't play to make money; play to make good decisions. The money is a consequence.

I don't know anyone who does it for money or for love; life is expensive, you have to earn a living.

I started playing for fun, but what kept me interested was the challenge of improving rather than the money itself. The strategy, psychology, and constant learning are what make poker so engaging. Of course, winning is a great bonus, and making a profit is always the goal when playing seriously, but if money is your only motivation, the inevitable downswings can become very frustrating. Enjoying the game while staying disciplined is, in my opinion, the best combination for long-term success.

Poker can be both fun and an occupation it all depends on your approach.
For some, it's a hobby and a way to relax. For others, it's a serious pursuit that requires discipline, study, bankroll management, and emotional control.
No matter the goal, enjoying the game while making good decisions is what matters most.

Honestly, I think most of us start for fun, but winning money definitely makes the game even more exciting. If there was no fun, we wouldn't keep playing after all those bad beats 😁

It's no secret that for a professional in any field, unlike an amateur, their occupation is a source of income. But poker is a very specific environment, and therefore working in it requires a host of nuances and subtleties.

I started playing mostly for fun because I enjoyed learning the game. Over time, I realized that good decisions and patience can also lead to profit. For me, poker is still fun first, but winning money is a great bonus that keeps me motivated to improve.

I think most people start playing poker for fun, curiosity, or because they enjoy the competition. The money is definitely part of the attraction, but if you only play for the money, the swings can make the game very frustrating. You have to enjoy the process, learning, and improving, because even great players can lose for long periods.

For me, the best mindset is to play because you love the game first, and see the money as a reward for making good decisions. When someone only focuses on winning money, they often put too much pressure on themselves and stop enjoying the game. Poker is at its best when you enjoy the challenge and the competition.

So for me, poker is both: it’s fun because I love the game, but it’s also an occupation because I approach it with the seriousness it deserves.
