This is a question I see asked a lot:
Is poker getting harder than it used to be? From my perspective, the answer is yes—but not in a way that should discourage newer players.
Today, more players understand basic strategy, position, and
bankroll management. There’s also a huge amount of free content available, so the average skill level has definitely increased. Compared to earlier days, it’s harder to find tables full of complete beginners.
That said, I don’t think poker is “solved” or unbeatable. Many players still make the same mistakes: poor tilt control, weak bankroll discipline, and playing too predictably. I’ve found that focusing on fundamentals and table selection still gives a solid edge, especially at lower and mid stakes.
For me, poker hasn’t become impossible—just more competitive. The players who study a little, stay disciplined, and manage emotions can still be profitable.
What do you think? Has poker become tougher in your games, or do you feel there are still plenty of good opportunities to win?
