Poker hand etiquette in this spot?

I play in a live league, there's a few guys that play in it that like to do exactly what you do,but when they get knocked out or leave to go to another table, I can't say the things they say about that player, but the most common one is he don't know, whats the other word for crap, nobody really cares how much of a poker genius they think they are just as long as they don't walk away with there chips LOL, just letting u know by just being there!!!

I highly doubt they think I know nothing since I've categorically stated that I am the best poker player to ever enter the casino and have been talking about concepts they still can't apply after 30 years of poker.

I agree with tenbob but take it even further... I WANT everyone thinking I'm a bad player. Say someone criticizes a play I made -- I just smile, shrug, say something like "I got lucky", tell them they're right, whatever. I absolutely don't want them thinking I might be right and then adjusting their play accordingly!

C'mon dude, you're way too smart to do stuff this dumb. Keep the fish happy and encourage them to keep playing the way they do.

Well it is sort of true. I didn't say I was the best player ever to play. One of them said something to me and I said I'm the best player here and would give anyone evens on a last longer bet even if they had more chips at that point. I can't seem to help myself commenting when somebody is just plain wrong in what they say.

back to the original question, nothing wrong with what You did. Mind games are part of poker. One guy I played with a lot would always hem and haw over a bet, and say "you got the flush?" and then reluctantly throw out a bet. We knew he always had the nuts himself when he went into this act.

#1 - You pull that on me on the table, I'm okay with it but I am going to say to: "Bravo - nice performance." Or, "...and the Oscar goes to..."
#2 - You get guys babbling and asking each other what in the f*** are you doing playing like that. then you have them by the balls - WHY LET GO?
If you have to talk then pull a Darvin Moon, who told Anotnio Esfandiari (when Antonio had a "WTF?!?!" moment holding pocket jacks), "I'm new at this game. I over raise, I under raise... I'm not sure."
But better to keep them wondering what in the hell you're doing - don't explain to them what you're doing!

Those guys at the tables are idiots, like I can't even believe that HAPPENS.

Poker is about deceiving the others, if they want to think your rage tilting and shoving in blind any two then wheres the etiquette in them taking advantage of you in the spot where your weak minded? Kind of makes no sense in any way them saying it's bad etiquette in any way.

I wish I was there lol. Seriously though blue, it's great play from you, I love it.

Sounds like you're your own worst enemy on the tables. The muzzle sounds like a good idea. (maybe try not talking at all?)

When I play I try to get players to like me... they don't seem to mind paying me off as much. Talking strategy is a big 'forget about it'. On breaks I might inquire with someone about strategy, but only to pick up some info. for myself (to see how the player thinks, etc. .. but never revealing anything about myself except for maybe tryin' to act like a noob).

Well I do it just because I get bored playing live and find myself making a comment when someone says something wrong. I think it's purely to do with play not going fast enough so I get bored and comment on things I know I sohuldn't be. I go from 500 hands an hour online to 20 hands an hour live.

You did exactly what you had to, to get the most money out of the situation. I've actually done similar things.

I know I've done on more than one occassion, when I lose a big pot, and get a monster next hand, I'll over raise, or even shove if someone raises enough before me, trying to look like im tilted.

As for your move, not very wise imo with only 88. I would want JJ+,AK in that spot to feign weakness. 88 is very vunerable.

Surely the fact that one of them commented with what happened to only do that with a polarised range kind of makes your comment redundant?

Anyway this thread is well past its sell by date. It's been established that it was fine. If any more new members decide to give it a bump with whatever comment it should be an insta ban imo.

You'd think a brilliant poker mind like that would have realized that AJo doesn't fair so well against a polarized range.

My guess is that he saw two face cards and thought they were pretty enough to call your all-in regardless of anything else.
