Poker and money

In what ways has poker changed your perspective on money? or has your perspective on money changed at all?

Not at all.

I'm not sure how it would unless I made a lot or lost a lot, neither of which is ever going to happen.

Tough question Shells .
It has certainly changed, but not dramatically. The change is in terms of realizing that there is so much money out there to be made through poker, but definitely not as easy as one might think.

In my opinion, the money you earn from poker also becomes a trophy for being competitive. If one day I win a lot of money playing poker, it will be two achievements, financial and professional.🏆💲💰

You are very right about the amount of money available to win through poker. Anyone who thinks it's 'easy' to win hasn't played or been around poker long enough, in my opinion.

Not much has changed, for those who have a lot of money everything is absolutely easier in poker, in terms of financial pressure, comfort or tools, quality of life...

With a full account it's easy not to be tilted, however when God doesn't want you, you can have all the money in the world and all the opportunities, but it still won't work.

You can lose $20,000 playing better than you've ever played, and equity just doesn't work.
But sometimes this is God freeing you from traps, and taking you to better places.

Poker has not changed my attitude to money, but I only play for small stakes in live tournaments os its not a great amount of money.

Poker did not change my view to money. I actually play freerolls and microstakes. I did not have a good bankrollmanagement. If i win some money i invest in mtts out of my money range. If i did not learn to have the patience to play only tourney which are 1% of my bankroll then i never could build my bankroll without a lucky win in higher stakes. But i did not play because of money, i play to have some nice time and mostly i enjoy the daily cc freerolls.

My perspective on money playing poker has changed since I realized I could make a side income simply by playing, but it's very, very easy to lose in seconds what was hard to come by in months or even years... I've had some achievements, awards in tournaments that showed that patience, dedication and a lot of luck can bring great results. So, I think the most important thing is what you do with the money you earn so that it bears good fruit and makes you a better person, without greed, just thinking about having patience and luck to defeat opponents who like me want the same, focusing on kindness and wisdom in recognizing the victory and luck of the other players, although sometimes this makes the regret of not very good choices bubble up. Learning to have faith in future hands and future tournaments and always turning the page, with joy and perseverance, looking for better hands and for becoming a better person in this game full of traps and surprises.

I admire the real money players. But I am sure it's still very hard work. As the more money at stake, the more stress.
Even with money I would not be able to play poker as a living. I can only play small stakes for entertainment.

Over the 12 years that I have been playing poker, there have been all sorts of things - cash games, spins, MTT tournaments. The bankroll rose and fell before my eyes. But a month ago, after winning the gold pass (I chose the online tournament package), my attitude towards poker and the opportunity to win money changed to a more serious one. I realized that without proper bankroll management, and most importantly, constant training in the nuances of poker, I could do little with the great opportunity that I received. In addition, I am glad that I can share my successes with fellow poker players on our forum and receive support from the guys.

You have to forget about the money while you play.

When I played seriously during the "golden age" of online poker I could win or lose 1k dollars in an hour.

Sure I could tilt terribly but not over the money.

As the song goes (guess which one):

poker changed the way I see money in a more administrative way, thanks to poker today I know how to manage my money and in addition poker taught me to value the money I earn more

My story with poker is funny to say the least, but that's for another topic.

I got into poker by chance, and I ended up liking it, but I never let myself be carried away by the ambition of making a lot of money playing, that's why I only participate in freeroll tournaments, and that's fine with me.

Great thread with some great responses from some great posters and great players. Two of which I have played heads up fairly recently and was delighted to have come out the other side victorious. Shout out, @ninocabral & @pentazepam - undoubtedly two of the toughest and most capable players in our community.

I never looked at poker as anything more than a hobby, a pastime. I've always had other multiple sources of income and I was always raised by my Yorkshire father to 'never bet more than you can afford to lose'. I've never made or lost more than 3 figures in a day but that hasn't put a dent in my income. Poker hasn't changed my perspective on money at all that I can think of. Even when I played slightly higher stakes, years ago, I didn't think about the money while I was playing. I was thinking about the game. It was the game I love, not the money. I don't play a 3 hour freeroll to win 20 bucks, I play for the very real buzz of winning.

To quote another great song.

I used to play the Hubbles games on Pokerstars, back in the day.

10,000 entrants, 3 or 4 times I finished in the top 27 and I'd just scroll and scroll and scroll through the list of thousands of people from all over the planet who I had lasted longer than. 4 in the morning and the adrenaline is buzzing through your veins - not because of the $1.20 you'd just won, but because of the size of what you had just achieved and the crazy rollercoaster journey you had just been on.

For me, nothing has changed. I simply keep in mind that sometimes with luck in my favor I can win a good amount of money but it's not something that will take my sleep away. I have never spent more money than I could. If the jackpot comes out, let it come and if not, the money lost doesn't bring problems to my life. I just enjoy playing.

Poker probably did not affect my attitude to money in any way, there is one simple truth - no matter how much money you earn, there will still be very little of it.

when you win, some kind of euphoria comes, it seems that I can do everything and it will always be like this, but the next games put it in its place, because you don't always win... when, after winning, you get into the lane when you don't win, it's not pleasant to watch the bankroll decrease...

i don't think it's had much of an effect if anything it just makes we wiser with how I spend/treat it

It hasn't changed in any way, I still believe the only way to make money is to work hard for it, I never enter a game of Poker thinking I am going to win because more often than not you don't always win. but I treat the buy-in as the door price I have to pay in order to enjoy myself.
Some go to football games, others go to Nightclubs or the Cinema, and I don't criticise them, if that's what rocks their boat good luck to them. For me an enjoyable evening playing Poker gives me pleasure even if I Win or Lose,
The pleasure comes from taking part in the game, and if I should Win it's a Bonus!

To keep a percentage of my money for fun and hobbies and always keep those funds separated. That has worked very well for me.

No, poker hasn't changed my attitude to money. I've always valued money and never spent it frivolously. As for poker, I actually make a deposit only once a year in order to have an affordable way to withdraw. I regularly build up my bankroll by playing freerolls, including our CardsChat freerolls, and I do this because I value money. I think most of our community members value their money, and that's why they are members of CardsChat. The CardsChat community allows us to play poker to the fullest without spending a single cent out of pocket.
