Interesting discussion.
Here in the UK poker, like all card games, is deemed a game of chance. This is fantastic for poker players here because in the UK you don't pay tax on anything earnt through what HMRC regards as gambling.
It always makes me smile when I say to people I play poker and get the response that ooooo gambling is immoral, wrong and should be banned. I then ask if they have stocks and shares in a portfolio. Most answer yes. I then point out that those stocks and shares are traded on the stock exchange where the brokers basically gamble on the share price either rising or falling. I then ask if that should also be banned and if not why as there is no real difference, just a moral ambiguity at play.
The other thing that makes me smile is that after being preached to I ask if they would like to play a few
hands with me. I always get the answer no. Their reason for not playing me, (totally laughable given they thing it is all chance and luck) is that I would beat them because I have been playing for so long.
You can literally see the tumble weed blowing down the street when I point out if it's nothing more than luck it doesn't matter how long I've been playing compared to them. Using their argument I tell them they should have just as much chance of winning as I do lol
