In my opinion I think this varies from person to person, for example I don't like smoking but I know people who smoke and the performance is great.

It reminds me of old western movies, in the scenes where the gunmen and the sheriff would go to bars smoking cigars and playing poker.
It still reminds me of mafia movies, where the bosses appeared in casinos smoking their cigars and playing poker. Maybe that's how I learned to love poker.

Of course, smoking interferes with normal life. I smoked for many years, quit only after a heart attack, when I was almost near death, only then I understood, either smoking or life.

Smoking used to have a romantic image. That is long dead. Even the villains of modern film noir find it disgusting. Unless they are smoking something stronger!

Some players smoke while playing, they do it most of the time to warm their bodies in winter when it is quite cold, but I don't know what consequences it has on your performance playing poker.

It's great if you have discipline and only use it in a spot where you're tired and need a little cognitive boost. Coffee has about an 8-hour half-life. Nicotine is 2 hours. It can give you a focus boost without destroying sleep.

I believe you need a calm mind to play poker with maximum concentration. Any outside agent be it, alcohol or drugs will not help you in your ultimate task to win for example a MTT. You could have 2000 opponents, it doesn’t make sense to add one or more opponents to the list.

Oh this is a sore subject for me..
I'm not allowed to smoke. Sometimes there were such cases, I paused and went to smoke. Smoking is a different drug. It takes a lot of willpower to quit smoking. But unfortunately everything remains the same

I play poker and during break I go out for a smoke. It actually makes me feel better and I believe ti helps me analyze what is happening on the tables that I am in. Or it just a habit and has nothing to do with poker. good luck on the tables.
