All the above is subjective. What do you consider 'riches'? And 'rags'? My late father used to have a private game that only older retired business owners played in. The "take out" was only $1,000, but these guys set down with $20,000 to $50,000 and played like real poker players should, no idiots or donks there. The whole lot of them were very friendly and wasn't out to get 'rich', they already were. So one night i thought i would watch the game but due to the large amount of cash on hand, bystanders were strictly forbidden, even if my dad did run the game, i wasn't allowed to watch, so i got in the game having gotten an insurance settlement a few months before. I had a little over 15k in my pocket, took 2k out and felt like Davey going up against Goliath. the game was 7 card stud hi-lo. long story short, i hit a jack high straight flush in clubs, and the low draws busted out, giving me a $38,000 pot, and almost a heart attack. Had we not been playing "out of pocket", i would have only won around $11,000. Some games play out of pocket, meaning if you had everything on the table in, you can pull out more if you have it. So, i went from rags to riches in my thoughts and got lucky in doing it. The right place, the right time, and a little luck. And after a few more hands excused myself and GOT out. Did the old fellers get mad? Nope, they all said come back sometime and play some more. Yea, i will lol.
