Are there members of the forum among us who have undergone rehabilitation in specialized institutions to get rid of gambling addiction?

I have reconsidered my attitude to poker. No more nerves. Poker will remain for me just as a hobby. No deposits. I do not plan to make money with poker anymore. I decided that I would only play freerolls for fun without any expectations.

Hi. Of course not, drugs will not help with gambling addiction based on what I know. As far as I know, there is only one way - the 12-step program, which was developed in America based on the program of cure for alcoholism.

If you do not have gambling addiction, then this method of protection against loss of funds will work unambiguously. If addiction is present, then these measures are unlikely to help.

I think it goes from person to person. and if you get to the point of having to go into hospital and better stop playing poker. because if the person spends a lot of money and harms himself and his family. poker is not for him.

Dear member of our forum ... are you carefully reading the question that was asked? What does the transition to personalities have to do with it, namely me and the hospital? I asked if there were those on the forum who were undergoing rehabilitation. Why is your answer? Are you just creating 75 meaningless messages to access FRC?

Different strokes for different folks.

For some a 12 step program was the only way to fight their addiction. However many in life recognize when they hit rock bottom with whatever addiction and decide to amend their behavior for them selves.

The thing which has always troubled me with 12 steps programs is trading one addiction for another (as well as a religious component), that of the 12 step program itself. No one would argue that this is an incomparable improvement in terms of quality of life.

However, I would argue for an individual to come to terms with their addiction and act on it individually might make them more resolute in the longer term.

Quite a difficult topic...
Sometimes i myself think that i am addicted to the game. But on the other hand, i am a winning player, and poker is my only source of income at the moment. If i suddenly started to lose, then most likely i would easily quit the game, as i did with slot machines, which, in mathematics, were supposed to make a profit, but turned out to be an ordinary scam...

I don't even know if the fact that i spend a lot of time playing poker can be considered an addiction...

look I'm too strict to answer any questions. i'm not american i use google translator. but if I wrote what's written there and because it was relevant to what you wrote. the google translator didn't translate right. I have no intention of defaming or offending anyone. my mother was an AA participant I went to several meetings with her when she was alive. if i intend to complete 75 questions this is my problem. get better for you. pass well.

I didn't find where it's written that you're in rehab. I just found a question saying if there was anyone in rehabilitation on the forum. and I simply said that if the person needs rehabilitation they have to stop playing I didn't say anything too much.

I admit I have a gambling addiction I wrestle to control it all the time patting myself on the back for taking 4 days off recently was a struggle but had other work and family things to take care of first buying Xmas presents for example.

No never plan on getting that rehabilitation thing might cost money prefer to credit my utilities with my cash instead of paying a therapist for non essential treatment that might take money away from other essential costs in life to be honest.

Yeah, I believe for some there is no other framework which works in the same way as a 12 step program to help them reorder their lives.

However, I think there are many shall we say borderline people who use 12 step programs as a needless crutch. I personally do not subscribe to the idea that you are an alcoholic or drug addict for life - therefore you inevitably need the support system and the meetings or you relapse. I believe that you can put such issues behind you and live a relaxed life where you are not in fear of another drink, fix or gamble.

As I have said, I am certainly not writing off such programs but I do not think they are a fit for everyone. To wit, I have argued in the past that if people has easier access to mental health professionals many issues which bedevil contemporary society could be dealt with in a less dramatic manner. We're humans, we over indulge, we mess up, sometimes catastrophically but none of it means we can't amend our behavior or need to live under a shadow of imminent relapse.

A very interesting point of view about the 12-step program. Recovering from an addicted person lasts the rest of his life, so probably yes, I can say that there is a substitution of gambling addiction for addiction to the program. In the point about religiosity, you are not entirely right, God implied in recovery is not necessarily God from any existing religion, but prayer and entrustment of some aspects of life in this step is.

It is very simple to determine whether you have a gambling addiction, it is rather difficult to accept the very fact that you have a disease. (I'm not saying that you have it !!!) But if you decide to check yourself, write to me in private messages.

I did not ask for advice or opinion on what to do if I or someone of my friends has a gambling addiction. I would like to know the nicknames of members of the forum who have undergone rehabilitation with whom I could talk about this topic, who has experience, and not just handing out "invaluable" advice.. I'm sorry if I'm wrong, but if the whole topic contains messages "if the game brings you problems, then you need to stop playing" then what's the point of such a topic? Just read a lot of flood and waste my time?

The issue also faced in a forum such as this this, being international. English is a second language for many.

Therefore, when some post even though their intention/question seems clear to both themselves and even the reader, it will always be open to interpretation. By their nature many posts have to be 'interpreted' as their writing skills are less than a native speaker.

You question is clear, but does not quite read as if written by a native speaker. If they had, it would have been even simpler. For example -

Have any members of the forum had to undergo treatment for their gambling addiction?

Even then, I believe replies would have included some 'general' advice because it could yet be perceived the question was not necessarily personal but had been asked out of interest in the broader subject.

I think to pin the responses down further, you might have to say something such as -

I am looking for personal advice from anyone who has undergone treatment for their gambling addiction...

I hope this helps explain the replies.

I am indeed a problem gambler sometimes, but as in taking rehabilitation it will only cost you money.

Unless of course it becomes really serious and you hit rock bottom then professional help is recommended. I suggest taking a few days off, if you gamble excessively and take notes of your bankroll.

Once it goes to addiction levels it is not always possible to self right yourself and those groups are for people that need support or to be able to talk with others. It also kind of makes you accountable to people. For many addiction is lifelong, especially the drug addicts that overdose, or alcoholics that drink themselves to death or gambles that commit suicide. 12 step programs are meant to be a supportive forum for those that would benefit from that type of approach and as its free accessible to all.

I believe that there must be something to take care of the addiction to the game, because at one point I even spent a lot on poker, but my rehabilitation was with a woman hahaha I easily forgot poker for a few months

Which, for some people is a fact I have clearly acknowledged. However, if people had easier access to mental health professionals I believe this would be an immense help to those with addiction problems. They have had years of training in how to get to the causes of problem behavior and hopefully could provide enough insight for many to amend their behavior.

It is not as though I am trying to invalidate 12 step programs. However, the flaw I see is the general acceptance you have a lifelong problem. No doubt some will and they exhibit a deep addiction but I do not see that as anything but human nature. Some people will over eat and some take too many daredevil risks. Some will take drugs and some live monastic lives.

The issue for me being I do not think there are pat solutions to peoples weaknesses.
