Imagine every poker site agreed to implement one change that you suggested.

What would you change, and why do you think it would improve the experience for players?

Reduce the rake: Charge a lower commission on each pot. A high rake reduces every player's profits and makes it more difficult for even skilled players to remain profitable over the long term.

A real person shuffles the cards, and it’s filmed for everyone to see. It could cost them billions.

I'd add better note-taking tools on mobile. Many people play on their phones, and it's much harder to keep notes than on a computer.

If I could change one rule, I would make the blind levels a little longer in tournaments. Sometimes the blinds go up too fast, and it becomes difficult to play good poker. Longer levels would give players more time to make decisions and use strategy.

Add a show'em rule.
A player can demand to see any other players folded cards for fee. The fee is predetermined/published for a particular game, unraked* and paid directly to the player who shows.
(*No, extra rake is not better :p)

This would be easy to implement online, live poker might need more consideration with mucked cards, but I'm sure a variation of the rule could be worked out.

I think weaker players would like the 'free' money, stronger players would like the information revealed and who knows it might have desirable side effects like reducing soft play/collusion and other forms of cheating.

I'd love to see every poker site add a fully transparent hand history and RNG audit system. Not because I think games are rigged, but because transparency builds trust. Being able to easily review hands, verify outcomes, and understand how the software works would give players more confidence and let them focus on improving their game instead of questioning the platform. It would be a win for both players and poker sites.

I'd like to see a rule that if you are still in the hand at showdown that you must show your cards.

Sounds like an interesting variation, why would you want the change?

I think strong players who make good river bluffs would hate it, villain gets to fold and they have to show all their great bluffs that villain might not even imagine are possible - this will potentially remove a big edge on future bluffs.

I have to disagree with this. There are already online tournaments with many different speeds, so each player can just choose though, that suits them best. And not everyone wants to play or have time for tournaments, that last 6-8 hours or more.

I agree. I would love to see sites cap the rake at something reasonable like 3-4% for cash games, 8-9% for regular speed tournaments and 4-5% for hyperturbo formats. The income lost from this lower rake could be recouped by cutting down on rakeback, promotions and freerolls. Or in some cases there might not even be any loss of income at all, since people would play more, if the rake was reasonable.

Most online sites have that rule already. The only exception, I have heard of, is PartyPoker.

A showdown only happen, if two or more players are still in the hand, when all 5 cards are dealt and the betting completed. In that situation the player putting in the last aggression need to show first, and in most live poker rooms as well as PartyPoker other players can then choose to muck their cards rather than show a losing hand.

So this rule does not force anyone to show a bluff, unless the bluff is called. Which is already a rule in all poker rooms, as far as I know. I guess, in live poker its often accepted, that the last aggressor muck their cards, if they were bluffing and think, they can not win the hand. But the player calling can demand to see the mucked cards, if he want to "play by strict rules".

It would eliminate automatic players who enter tournaments to be absent.

Yes I msread Emily's post.

@fundiver199 "But the player calling can demand to see the mucked cards, if he want to "play by strict rules".
Yes they paid to see the hand.

I'd like that a third pair could untie if two players has two pair.
F.e. player 1 has A8 and player 2 AT

Board: AQ85Q

Players 1 wins with the third pair 😅

Exactly. However I do like, that you also get to see, what people called you with, when you were betting for value and won. Which is the way, it is on most online sites, and what Emily suggested should be a general rule. This also protects people from mucking the winning hand, as you somewhat regularly see it in live poker. Showdown should mean "now we all show", and then the winning hand is rewarded the pot :)

If I could choose one change, it would be a universal table history and transparency system. Every player would have access to clear statistics about their own sessions, tournament ROI, rake paid, and detailed hand histories in one place, regardless of the format. Better information leads to better decisions and faster improvement, especially for recreational players who want to learn. At the same time, greater transparency builds trust in the platform and helps players focus on long-term performance instead of judging themselves by short-term results.

I think data collection and the qualification of the rivals is paramount, not all the rooms allow it and very few allow it, so I think that would be the least they could offer.

If I could change one Hold'em rule, I'd make it mandatory to use both of your hole cards to make your final hand. I know it would be a completely different game, but I honestly think I'd enjoy it more.

I would probably push for a universal player-friendly system that gives everyone better tools to review and learn from their own game. Something like built-in hand history analysis, clear statistics about your play, and educational feedback after sessions.

A lot of players want to improve but don't always know where they are making mistakes. Having better learning tools would make the game more enjoyable, help new players stay engaged, and reward skill development rather than just short-term results. I think poker is at its best when players feel like they are improving and competing, not just depositing money and hoping for a good run.
