I Hate to admit it but I tend to smoke a lot during games:( It's not only a bad habit, unhealthy ( I feel it ) but it's also super costly and I don't win enough at the tables to support this bad habit

My heartfelt advice: Try vaping. It's cheaper, healthier and you only need to take a few puffs to feel satisfied instead of inhaling a whole cigarette.

Thanks for your reply. Can you recommend a good vape? Something that won't crash on me in middle of the poker tourney ?

Ha ha, they don't "crash" like a computer program would. A vaporizer can last you for years and years to come, even the cheapest models, the only thing you need to be mindful of is replacing the atomizer once in a while. Here's the device I'm using (the company was renamed to 'Vuse' in the meantime, though):

I would smoke as long as everyone else at the table was ok with it.

My bad here for not mentioning I was referring to online poker only, laws here prevent smoking in any indoor public space.

My only issue with playing cards in Vegas is dealing with the second hand smoke, I get it. Casino's can't make money without allowing addicted people to smoke and play slots. Or, there are those that need a fix in between playing cards in the lobby/side areas, which, I can understand somewhat as I was a major cigarette addict myself.

I honestly do not feel comfortable playing poker for money in Texas. Call it past history with Texas laws (corruption in Williamson County growing up), I will keep it as simple as that. I just do not want to partake in gambling of any kind in Texas, and could never see myself doing so. I am old now, and times have changed, I just def can't play in Wilco (where there is actually no smoking, which is what I want!) lol

So...when will Nevada wise up and make smoke rooms or have rooms that are far from smoke for poker? Perhaps enclosed smoke areas with slot machines and let the rest of the patrons not be around smoking?

Quite frustrating to want to play a card game, but have issues doing something so simple without side issues.

In my opinion smoking is a distraction and terrible to smell.

I usually wait for a break in the tournament to light one cigarette.
I know it's a bad habit but what to do.

Fortunately, I managed to get rid of this habit. I used to smoke a lot especially during the game, but now that I've quit smoking I've become more productive and I feel much better. Don't procrastinate tomorrow, quit today, right now.

Of course, smoking can help relieve stress quickly, and the fact that poker is a stressful game is unlikely to argued by anyone.People are not able to maintain concentration over a long period of time.Studies show that we usually have enough for 1-2 hours, after which mental activity decreases. In this regard, the inevitable regular smoking breaks can be considered an advantage, but l personally do not smoke.

If I suddenly decide to give up now I have to stop playing poker too, at least till I'm over it. Otherwise the nervousness would ruin me at the tables. As of now I've reduced them by inserting a bit of discipline , I'm allowing myself a ciggie once every 1.5hrs. In 2 weeks I'll extend the break to 2hrs and so on. I hope I can reduce them to a pack a week max

Unfortunately, I also smoke. I have been smoking for over 30 years and this habit is killing me. Unfortunately, I am simply unable to quit at the moment. I only smoke during the 5 minute break.

I'm with you, i smoke a lot and drink too much coffee, but the coffee I think that helps me at long tournaments, help me to focus. ☕

Smoking?

Nah I sure dont. I was around it enough and I certainly tried it, just couldn't grasp it. And Im cool with that lost quite a few relatives who were chained smokers.

I do not smoke and have never smoked. I have always considered smoking a stupid habit that only hurts. I generally follow a healthy lifestyle, I prefer healthy food, although sometimes, once every six months I can get drunk. :)

You must quit smoking completely. You'll be healthier, your mind won't be foggy, and you'll build a bankroll faster because more money is left in your pocket. ;)
