Always tournaments, cash is something else.

Hi all,
I enjoy tournaments because every stage of the game feels different and interesting.
Cash games are more stable, but tournaments feel more exciting to me.
Do you prefer tournaments or cash games, and why?
I also enjoy tournaments more. The different stages, changing stack sizes, and increasing pressure make the game more dynamic and interesting. Cash games are stable, but tournaments feel more exciting to me.

Tournaments all the way, because there’s a lot of money in prizes!

Hello, the truth is, I think the same, since it is very close to the free roll tournament scheme, which is what you start with in this world of poker and it gives you the doctrine and teaches you that you have to stick to what you have learned and being successful is not enough to be able to advance and reach the best positions

I lean toward tournaments, mainly because of the depth and changing dynamics. Stack sizes, ICM pressure, and stages of the event force you to constantly adapt, which keeps the game interesting and mentally engaging. There’s also that unique feeling of building a stack and making a deep run that cash games just don’t replicate. That said, cash games are great for consistency and lower variance. You can control session length, reload, and focus more on pure decision-making without survival pressure. If the goal is steady income, cash is often the better choice. If it’s excitement and big upside, tournaments win for me.

I enjoy playing tournaments more than cash, I like the structure of it and the gamesmanship it takes to get to a final table & win a tournament

Cash is great too that's where the money is - they're just two different games

How do you decide which format to play? Sometimes I feel like I do better in tournaments, but often I lose motivation because of how long the tournament lasts. What are the pros and cons of both?

I feel like I'm doing better in tournaments, but sometimes I get to a point where I don't want to keep playing even though I'm doing well, and I end up playing any pair of cards only to lose. I feel like it takes a long time to get into the prize zone.

It's always the case that when I get a good hand, they always get an even better one, and it frustrates me. I can't believe they always have good hands.

Great topic! I've been playing for a couple of years now and I'm definitely a tournament player at heart.

What draws me to MTTs is the structure of the journey — you start with the same stack as everyone else and have to navigate through different stages, each one demanding a different approach. The early levels are about patience and reading opponents, the middle stages are about accumulating chips without taking unnecessary risks, and when you reach the bubble or the final table, every decision feels like it really matters. That progression is something cash games just don't replicate for me.

Well, you're right about that, the excitement of tournaments is incomparable, especially when you're in the prize bubble where every step is an achievement, but it's frustrating to be so close to the top and have a bad beat ruin everything after so much time playing.

I love tournaments, but unfortunately I don’t have time for them. I can only play in tournaments at the weekend, and even then not always. That’s why I play cash games, for about an hour a day.
