I think the difference is that the professional lives exclusively on poker winnings.

The amateur plays for fun and relaxation from the main activity. Professionals don't make playing fun, they make it their main activity.

It is very simple because Professionals are former amateurs who had luck in one very important time off poker live and now have big bankrolls and can be Professionals they for sure not a better players than amateurs.

A professional is looking for another ways to earn money beyond poker games, the amateur is looking for a way to earn money exclusively by poker games.

The difference between a professional and an amateur player is that a professional has already had a mental preparation of the techniques used in poker, while an amateur will only be looking for bad beats with community cards or dreaming that they can win with a pair, but a professional will always be looking to win the blinds with pressure techniques or looking for good hands.

The professional makes poker for his livelihood, that's his job. In order not to go broke, a professional poker player devotes a lot of time to improving his skills, analyzing hands, and following all the news of poker. A poker lover is like a hobby for him, an additional income to the main income. He also tries to learn everything in poker, but he has less time to play, and, accordingly, less income.

there are many differences
starting with the number of hands played, ie how many times a player has faced the same scenario and what he can do
and not to mention that the pressure it exerts is very high

The difference is that the pro needs poker money, he pays his bills with that money. An amateur usually has another profession, and most of the time he plays just because he likes to play poker. Both can be good players (or not).

between a professional poker player and an amateur?

In my opinion like all sport and game, as the word says, professional is the one who makes it his profession. amateur, the one that for more dedication and study and perhaps the same level as a professional, only performs it recreationally.

An amateur pays to play poker. A profitable player makes some money from playing poker. A professional is staked by others to play poker.

I believe the main difference is discipline. There are definitely some, like time and money to invest, mainly. But I still place a heavy weight on the discipline.

I personally think that the difference is in the EXPERIENCE ... an amateur can play like a professional depending on how they have learned or from whom, but experience is always the greatest advantage that a professional has.

By this I am not saying anything new that the pro learns her own game while the amateur is not a pro profit the amateur remains an amateur
