Chris Moneymaker's story inspired me and brought me into online poker. He won a satellite tournament for the wsop with a small buy-in and then also won the WSOP - wow. I've always asked myself whether it is also possible to build a bankroll with freerolls in order to finance the buy-in for the WSOP at some point. That would be very cool, of course. Of course it's a long way - but the way should be fun and poker should remain a hobby. I don't want to be a professional player who finances his life with poker.

It's more of a hobby for me. I don't think about professional poker. As the previous speaker mentioned about what Mr. Moneymaker achieved is amazing. Even recently, a large Sunday million was won by Gwoldee who qualified from the $ 22 satellite to the tournament and took home $ 711k. It inspires sometimes. But for me it's just a hobby.

I really hope to change my destiny with poker, it gives me hope to build a decent life in exchange for a mediocre reality. yet if i don't make it, poker has made me a better person than i ever was.

At the very least, have additional income. I think living by poker alone is a very risky business.

I play poker mostly for pleasure, I don't invest almost anything financially, and sometimes I make some profit, usually small, but very dear, and it contributes even more to the satisfaction with the game.
If making money is your priority, it requires a lot of study and time spent upgrading your level of play, and that would be too strenuous for me.

I want to have fun and also earn money, I studied. 2020 was a bad year and if I was playing poker as a game today, it could have been a better year.

I dream of living off poker

I already like the sport a lot. so i have dedicated a good part of my time to be able to have real chances of having a part of my budget involved in poker winnings. or preferably live off poker. but one step at a time. at the moment I'm learning every day with everyone here on the forum

hmm - probably "improvement" and/or "poker ability." Yes, I'll go with that answer; that is what I'm looking to get out of poker. If I eventually become better at it, then I might play at higher stakes. The extra money would be nice, but that isn't my main ambition really.

What I want to get out of poker feels like a really long-term question and I'm about as beginner as it gets. I learned the rules circa a year ago and have been working on my game since then (in great part to CardsChat

), but only playing online freerolls so far and never even been to a casino before. If I improve, then I'll take the next steps in my poker journey, but in increments. Slowly play more competitive games and slowly moving up in stakes according to bankroll management if I'm consistently winning where I'm at. I'm willing to study, learn and put in the time/effort into improving at poker - but I still feel like I'm also just starting out in many ways.

Once the pandemic is over, I plan to visit a casino for the first time (I never went in the past, because the nearest casino to where I live is a long drive away). Once I take in the atmosphere and the flow of the place, then I might try my hand at the lowest of micro levels and see how I do - only moving up when I'm comfortably crushing the games I'm in.

Nice forum thread question though; I'm eager to hear what others hope to gain from poker too

Just have fun. But to have a proper game of poker you have to play for money. So as a secondary requirement I'd like it not to cost me any money.

I like to bet, always with control, not in an excessive way, and poker gives me that feeling that you can have everything and lose it at the same time if you make a mistake at the wrong time, I really enjoy playing, and if I win even more! LOL
