Phil Ivey is the greatest talent in poker we´ve ever seen and walked on earth. How can he be so good in so many areas of poker ? I read that he always thinks about poker, almost every minute. And this way he found a lot of poker "secrets", which we ordinary mortals don´t know and never will know.

Ivey's pretty decent but honestly... compared to JoeShowdown.. pff.. it's not even close!! JoeShowdown is the bomb!:)

Well, I know that JoeShowdown has the same effect on me at the tables as Ivey might, were I to sit at his table. My blood runs cold and I quake.

I like Ivey. Durr just seems like a lot of show boat to me.

If you watch Durrrr play live, its like watching a fearless sick robot. He raises with anything, and somehow gets into his opponents mind and can discern exactly what they have, and make them think he has what would win the hand... I believe Dwan has never been down in a season of HSP history, online is different, losing 10K is nothing when your net is 5 million... the swings seem huge to us microstakes players, but 10K is probably 1 buy in for Durrr online.

Also, Ivey and Dwan are both sick NLHE live cash game players... this proves it.

YouTube- Tom "Durrrr" Dwan bluffs Phil Ivey in a monster pot

All reads the whole way.

I think he would have called if Elezra hadn't "fell asleep" and disturbed the hand.

Just on the surface, what are some of the things you notice about Phil Ivey?
1) he does NOT wear sunglasses to hide his eyes. Why? So he can accurately read tell-tail signs (physiological changes) in the other players (eye patterns, pupil dilation, skin tone, etc.) I know from long experience that it is virtually impossible to read these signals through dark glasses.

2) He doesn't cover or shade his eyes in any way during play. He doesn't need to. Why? Because he has trained himself not to feel any emotion during a hand that would betray his position.

3) His eyes are going back and forth from player to player--even those not in the hand. Why? Why look at players not in the hand? Because poker for him is about reading the other players. He calibrates the physiology of the other players when the player is not in the hand. When the player is in the hand, Ivey can easily, yes, easily tell the strength of the players hand by the players physiology. Negraneu is excellent at this as well.

(This is a very different approach to poke than say Helmuth who likes to set up these elaborate traps for his opponents and then gets pissed when they don't act the way 'he thinks a poker player should'. Then they're idiots and he throws a fit.)

Which brings us to 4) Ivey controls his emotions. Think of poker as playing the stock market. Each poker hand is like the little ups and downs in the market. If you're in for the long haul you are able to leave emotions at the door. Inside, you're emotionally quiet. Now, you're in a position to read the emotions of the other players.

i love how you guys give credit to Phil Ivey for something he doesn't do, like thinking about calling Durrrr in the hand he got bluffed. to be honest with you, yesterday i was seriously thinking about trying to fight Semmy Schilt, i thought i has a good chance to knock his ass out, i could do my roundhouse kick which i learned from Chuck Norris, had a good 30 mins thoughts about it but then decided not to do it.

i think i should get some major respect here just for thinking about it. on the other hand, i have called a huge bet many times with something dumb like 4th pair, sometime i would catch a bluffer, but most of the time i would lose my money.

i still believe i should get some respect for thinking about fighting Semmy Schilt tho, i mean seriously now, i thought about it for like 30 minutes, longer than Phil Ivey did.

I dunno man.

Durr has +$900,000 profit over Ivey all time but...

Durr has played 307,650 hands
Ivey has only played 42,318

Look at that sick ratio... do the math.

Not to mention Ivey's Winrate using his telekinetic and mind reading powers Vs. Dwan, who I am waiting for him to drool on live TV some time... there's gotta be a lot of saliva filling that long jawed open mouth all the time

Ivey>Dwan

what site is this chart from? I expect my name on there soon.:D :D :D

I quit the game I am playing precisely at 8 am. There are two other games going on in the cardroom, one with the likes of Phil Ivey, Berry Greenstein, and Erick Lindgren. I take care of my business at the cashier and go to tell Erick that its time to get out of there. He tells me he is going to play until his blind and quit then (playing at 800-1600 euro, it's smart to get all the free hands possible).

As I stand patiently behind Erick, I start hearing dishes breaking and a ruckus in the hallway about 30 feet from where I am standing. I peep my head around the corner and see a gunman wearing a motorcycle helmet escorting a dealer down the hall, straight towards me, towards the cashier. At this point, I saw my entire life flash in front of my eyes, I just knew I was dead. Everyone hit the floor, ducking and trying to find the furthest spot from the gunman possible.

In the midst of all the chaos, there is no group of people I would rather be in this situation with than a bunch of poker players. When all the chaos started there had just been a flop in the 800-1600 game that Lindgren, Ivey and Greenstein were playing, so to say the least the robbers interrupted their game. Ivey and the boys have some sort of way of betting on the side if certain hands win each pot. While I was in the fetal position praying for my life, Ivey was under the table calm as can be and, turning to Lindgren and Greenstein said "Boys, I wanna' double up this hand"
lol

No disrespect Forsakenone, but if you think Phil Ivey is sorry and only depend on luck than you haven't been watching Ivey play poker. Or you believe the game is more luck then skills. Funny how you could even say such a thing. The majority of the poker pro believed Ivey to be the best all aorund player as of right. Study him and you will see that he plays in a different level, it like he has a six sense.

Not 6 sense , Its six tool player , read barry's book ..
