I play because I like the challenge of learning and playing a game where there are so many variables, not the least of which is pure luck. Managing luck is the hardest part of the game IMO.

I don't do it to "earn" money, but winning and profit are the only true indicators of success in this game. The more you "earn", the higher and more challenging the stakes that you can move up to. So "earning" is a necessary ingredient for me, but not a goal in itself.

I play as a hobby. Don't get to play often, so when I do play, getting an awesome experience is big for me. Love going on poker trips. Would love to see online poker regulated in my state (Ohio). Miss playing a lot like Pre Black Friday!

I'ts quite relaxing to me.. The casino treats me quite nice, with table massages, good food, drinks. It's like being on vacation. Other side of the coin the time spent away from the table is where all the hard work is put in, and constant 8hr study sessions, has paved a way for me to enjoy these lucrative benefits, and turn a profit on a game I love.

I like pitting my wits against another person. That's why I like playing heads up SnG's because you can focus on your opponent rather than your cards. Outplaying someone is the most satisfying feeling. Even when I've lost because they got lucky, I'm still happy, because I know that I outplayed them and that if I were to play them 10 times, 100 times, 1000 times I would easily be the winning player.

I think poker is a great hobby. I can do lots of things that cost a lot of money. Where else can you get in for $0.55 and play for 2-3 hours and sometimes come out with a bunch of cash you didn't go in with?

I love revving up my tired old nervous system playing a game with so many variables to pay attention to. So, fun fun fun.
I used to supplement my meager income by grinding at my local cardhouses but disability trends downward and I had to slow way down due to physical barriers.
Now i just play when i feel like it and generally online for the physical ease my home environment engenders.

Definitely the fun is the reason why I play poker. But with no doubt I can assert that part of the fun is that real money can be won - that is playing poker for so called "play" money doesn't attract me at all. Also it should be noted that I haven't yet overcome the fear of loosing money; that's why I limit myself to freerolls for now.
