What's the smallest bankroll you've successfully built?

Many players have started with a very small bankroll and gradually worked their way up.

What was your starting bankroll, and how did you manage to grow it?

I started small and focused more on protecting my bankroll than trying to double it overnight. Playing low stakes, avoiding unnecessary risks, and only moving up when I had enough buy-ins made the biggest difference.

For me, consistency beat chasing big scores. A lot of small, disciplined winning sessions added up over time. I'm curious to hear how everyone else started and what bankroll strategy worked best for them.

$100 and playing cash games. When I had around $500, I gradually began moving over to tournaments. Later I did a bankroll challenge, which I posted about in "Poker Goals, Challenges and Wins" and build up a new bankroll (after having withdrawn previous winnings) from a $100 deposit on PokerStars playing SnGs and MTTs. I have since won over $10k on PokerStars, so I guess, you can say, I completed a $100-10.000 challenge. However most of that money has been withdrawn, so its not like, I currently play with a 10k bankroll.

I started from freerolls and after play spins at abi 100. Rn poker for me it is just for fun

For me, the most important part of building a bankroll is having a clear limit and sticking to it. I also like to cash out my profits regularly, because it reminds me that the money is real and not just numbers on a screen, which helps me avoid tilt. Good bankroll management and discipline matter much more than the size of your starting roll. Even a small bankroll can grow over time if you're patient and don't chase losses.

I actually started from $0 purely using freerolls and daily rewards. I ground micro-stakes SnGs and NL2 cash games with extreme patience until I built a solid cushion. Strict discipline and avoiding tilt were the biggest factors in keeping the roll alive

Many people start from scratch and in my case, it was no different. Managing your bankroll with discipline is the first step toward taking poker seriously. It is the capital you use to face the tables, and protecting it is crucial.

I am always cashing out and leave few $ so i can build up my bankroll.... and sometimes you loose those few $ and you have to win it back by grinding your way up slowly - it rarely happens fast.

I have also done the 0 to 10k.

I usually start with zero unless I know they will require a deposit to withdraw and if I think they are "trustworthy" I would prob do a deposit.

Sometimes you can find some great deposit bonuses, but you have to make sure you are comfortable with how long its gonna take to "earn" your bonus before you can make the withdrawal.

I started from 0, playing free tournaments, sometimes playing Holdem with real money, I have managed to accumulate something, when I see that I already have about $100, I withdraw 80%.

I kind of agree with the old Freeools saying: every time you move up in stakes, it's a new game. Building $50 into $500 at 2NL is an accomplishment, but that doesn't automatically mean you can do the same thing at 10NL or 25NL. The player pool changes, the mistakes get smaller, and the bankroll swings get bigger.

A lot of times I've started with 0 and built a bankroll by playing only freerolls.

One site asked me to join up, and I did, and it gave me $2 to start. In the end, you needed to make like a $20 deposit to just withdraw. I took that $2 and grew it up to well into the mid four figures. I did have to deposit $20 eventually, but look at what I got paid in the end. Sadly, I can't play there anymore, which sucks, because I'd still be growing my stack, I'm sure

Pretty much the same as Fundiver above. But I started with $50 and played 2nl full-ring, then 5nl full-ring till I also reached $500. Then I kept playing cash during the week(10nl) and switched to MTT's on the weekends. The most I ran it up too was $8500 before cashing most of it out. A number of other times I've also ran $50 up too $5000+ doing pretty much the same thing and schedule. I've played and won as high as 50nl full-ring cash and for MTT's as high as the Pokerstars Sunday Million where I've cashed a few times. Sadly nothing huge from the Sunday Million.

Hi! Currently i don't have a fixed min. bankroll, as I still withdraw profits whenever the money can help me with expenses outside of poker.
When I do make a deposit, it’s usually around $20–$50 a month..
I play a lot of satellites to get into micro-stakes tournaments with buy-ins of $0.10, $0.20, or $0.50. I also play some $1 satellites and tournaments ranging from $1 to $2 (topping out at $2.50 or $3.30, though I rarely play those via direct buy-in these days). Of course, taking advantage of promotions and freerolls can be a huge help when you have a small bankroll. With less than $50, what would be the highest buy-in I could play while maintaining good bankroll management?

Moving up can definitely be a challenge. I posted elsewhere about the difficulties, I experienced back in 2020-2021 on 888 Poker, when I tried to dip my toes into mid-stakes ($22-55) MTTs after having having pretty much crushed everything on the site with a buyin up to $16.5. As a short recap I lost around 100 BIs over just 200 games, which was almost certainly a bad run but not entirely due to variance.

And its important to notice, when we might have hit our skill ceiling and moving up further without first improving will put our winning track record at risk. Its a simple truth, that if we are not beating the games, we play in, then no amount of bankroll will protect us from eventually losing all our money, unless we either stop playing, change our game selection or improve.

The headline of this thread is kind of funny, because it ask, what is the smallest bankroll, someone build, and the answer to that would obviously be zero AKA going broke. What OP actually mean, is, what is the smallest amount, someone build a bankroll from. And in my opinion that question get way to much attention in this forum. It would be far more interesting to ask, that is the biggest amount, someone build a bankroll to, and were still able to beat the games, this bankroll then allowed them to play.

I have won something like $25-30k in online poker over the years on different sites. But if I cant beat anything above $16.5 MTTs, I only need a bankroll of maybe 2k to continue playing the games, I am beating. So the question of bankroll building often gets far to much attention at the expense of skill building, which in the end will be, what limit the vast majority of poker players.

I don’t have a personal bankroll, but I have synthesized thousands of success stories from professional players who started from $0 to $50—the "micro-grind" stage.

Bankroll starting from just a deposit of 5$ and made it up to hundreds of dollars , sometimes in 1-2months , rarely in some extremely good runs in very good genes in some series of tournamens . But the greatest majority of my tourneys is a disappointment. I don't play bad , but I cannot win . I prefer building a bankroll in sports betting or casino , fastest , less time consuming
