I think any strategy that you employ legally is a tool in your tool belt and should be used to make you a better player.

Because there are people who are doing other things and cannot be permanently focused as required in a fast game.

As usual, many in here don't understand what a 'slowroll' is. We're not talking about 'SLOWPLAYING'... or "playing slowly'. This is a different thing here... 'SLowroll'. Try Google Search. Or... read my other post above where I describe getting 'slowrolled' by another player (he turns a fullhouse... HE KNOWS he has the best hand. I PUT all of my chips in the middle.... he doesn't call right away... He is the only other player in the hand. He times down 'as if' (pretending) he can't decide if he should call or not.. BUT he KNOWS he has 100% the best hand.... & yet he still stalls.... & then stalls some more (he is hoping you are thinking his hand is weak.... so that you will believe that you are about to win the hand)..
He then hits his extra timer and allows that to 'almost' expire. Then he calls... WITH THE NUTS!!! (because he thinks this is funny).

Now do you understand?
As mentioned by another member above .. 'it's a dick move'.
Flopped quad 4's. I'm a dick, ask kcanuck.

I think this is a very profitable strategy to increase your bankroll. Overall, this is normal. I don't understand why many players condemn slow roll. I always use it myself if I see that I have nuts.

Just in case Poker Orifice's posts above are invisible, slow rolling is different to playing slow/timebanking.

I think this is also a game strategy. In online games, we have few resources to stress opponents. Stay calm and don't let him bother you with this.

It looks very impressive in live play. When one card is slowly revealed and then the second. It is impossible to do this online, and wasting time in such a situation looks silly.

You can not leave this get you on tilt. Players all the time make things that we cant control, and that have no sense at all. And the worst, if he realize that this make you on tilt, so he will make you exactly this. Just let him go..

In general the purpose of a slowroll is to have a cheap laugh at your opponent. Its usually considered bad style, unless its in a setting like a friendly homegame, where perhaps sometimes that cheap laugh can actually be ok. I rarely do it, because I always fear, that nemesis will strike. Either by me accidentally timing out or losing my internet connection, before I press "call", or if I face an all-in before the river by getting sucked out on :)

Most slow rollers are jerks but not all of them

In most cases people who slow roll are just morons trying to get a rise out of someone. the only times I've ever slow-rolled someone is because they slow rolled me and boy did it feel good when I slow roll someone that slow rolled me. or better yet asking someone if they have the blank card for a SET, when you have a pocket pair of the blank cards for quads, and so you slow roll em to show why slow rolling is a douchey move. Gl on the tables and as always have fun.

I suppose you see this in every corner of life. Some people swear by etiquettes and morals, others see the opportunity to gain their own advantage and take it.
