It's therapeutic, like meditation. When I'm playing it takes my focus off everything else. It's also very enjoyable! More fun than actually meditating.

Poker is metaphor for much more. It gives me insights into own life's strategies.
It's about patience, calculated risk, logic over emotions, etc.

Principally for two reasons:

I play mostly online and enjoy it because it is challenging (and frustrating) and makes me think. It is also better than watching TV.
Two of my favorite activities are golf and poker which have to be two of the most frustrating things to do.

For me poker is not a profession, for me poker is just a hobby that brings pleasure. Poker also brings me money, but this money is very little. However, the enjoyment I get from this great game motivates me to keep playing.
