I think because in Russia the average small income, everyone wants to raise money, or to pass the time.

The question is, why are so many sitting out in tournaments (at least on 888). I have a theory:
1. there must be a homepage or something that says you can even win some pennies or more, evn without playing a single hand.
2. there are small villages, where one has a celphone/internetconnection and it is shared between all of them

I don't think they would have a small income because if they didn't meet them it wouldn't be like here in Hungary with a small population putin has been running the country for more than 15 years if he doesn't have a small income and I don't think they would vote less than here in Hungary gonodlom

I think that most Russian people are close to card games in general. Plus, the population is a big factor too.

I didnt even think russians would either not have enough money to play very much poker,or would not be allowed.I know they have closed some casinos in russia.

yep, u can buy cards in any shops, most of them. most Russians know 3-5 different card games, not poker, not money games i mean.

yep. a lot of entertainment is dead (. PS and 888 only two places, who officially work in Russia. 888 have more freerolls promos than PS, so players actually choose )

I don't think there is a correct answer, only assumptions. And mine is the ease of access that they have in the poker rooms, you only need a computer or a telephone with internet access

I think it is a country much larger than most countries that participate in the poker rooms, more exclusively in poker stasr is always full of Russians different from the American, which in turn has fewer people, that is less Russians.

Probably due to sites focussing their efforts there since Black Friday seeing a large market possibility. Before Black Friday Pokerstars was majority USA players and I don't remember seeing many Russian players at that time.

I was always wondering about that. Every table I'm on is always at least 2 Russians or more on my table. I think it could be that most Russians love their poker more than others in the world.

Because it is a big country and card games are very popular over there too. Casinos now only in Sochi and many gamblers switched to online poker I suppose.

Maybe the question should be why is less americans (south, central and north)

In most north america online poker is forbidden, south and central do not want/cant play in dollars. Europe is full of small countries and asia should have theyr own sites.

Hence lots of russians compared to the rest

Also, Russia is big a cold as balls for most of the year, just like Canada. It's why both countries have higher per capita levels of people playing board games and card games then most other industrial nations. We can do it inside where it's warm.

There is an answer to this question, it is multifaceted, it consists of many factors.
Firstly, it is certainly a huge country with a large population, unlike many European countries. In many Asian countries, poker is either banned or has their own poker sites. Many European countries have their own poker sites, including PokerStars. Therefore, not all countries are represented on PokerStars. And also many big countries like USA, China etc. do not play on PokerStars.
Secondly, during the Soviet era, gambling was strictly prohibited in Russia (USSR). But there have always been a large number of other players (not just poker) who gambled secretly. And in the evenings, especially on long winter evenings (do not forget that winter in Russia, especially in Siberia, is long), many played card games (not gambling), mainly children and young people. Since there were not many other board games, there were no board games like Monopoly, etc., there were no computers and the Internet.
Thirdly, in Russia and other countries of the former USSR there has always been and is a highly developed logical thinking and exact sciences.
Fourth, the income of the majority of the population is small, and any winnings in poker allow you to live on this money.
