Can you become a rich person with poker?

Some people get rich with poker but the most get poor from poker. The 5% pros take the money from the 95 % fishes. Are you in the 5 %?

It's possible. But it's not the rule. However, nothing prevents you from earning considerable extra income from Poker. I think that should be the goal.

Well, yes and no. The hard way is called “grinding”. It’s what John Turturro’s character does in the film Rounders. While Matt Damon’s character takes his entire bankroll and uses it to play heads up for the highest stakes possible against the most feared player in town and promptly loses it with A-9 versus A-A on an A-9-9 board.


The hard way means that when you finally get the bankroll and skills to go up a level, you take a shot at the next level with an amount which, even if you blow the lot, means you’ll still have enough left to grind another bankroll back up at the lower level. It means playing the higher levels for months, possibly years at break even before you have the skills, courage and bankroll to stay there. Then repeat the process for the next level up. All the while taking money out of your bankroll to live on.

Of course you can get rich if you play poker just like you can get rich doing anything else. Obviously you have to be super talented and dedicated to mastering your own game. It takes times, it doesn't just happen overnight.

I think a few thousand people got rich playing poker

It really depends on you, your motivation, your energy, your feelings, your emotions. How desperate are you? I am very desperate, personally. Desperate to not have anyone watching over me or controlling me in any way. Desperate to have a life that I can control. Desperate to do whatever I want to do and whenever I want to do it. Desperate to find meaning in life. Desperate to be the absolute best at something that I really like. Therefore, desperate to become rich. I have already become nearly the best in some areas of expertise, but these are areas that I was somewhat forced into (not by my own informed choice) and I would not like these to be the only ways in my life. I expect way much more of me and I actively work towards it. I do not give up easily. Whether life will take me away from poker and onto something more rewarding, that's to be seen.

Yes, you can become rich from poker just as much as you can become rich from any other activity that you have control over, are good with numbers and are happy to risk everything and bend over backwards for to do it excellently, not just up to the level of "it'll do" as it never does.

Bit of advice: Whatever you actively do with your time, it will at least expand your vision and there's always a possibility, external factors around you will show you something you possibly like more to do that everything you thought you knew. You really never know everything, but as long as your active, things will simply show up to you.

For most people, the best way to become rich from poker, is to already be rich before you start playing...

I believe that it is possible to become rich playing poker.

Of course, the definition of rich requires some clarification. An online dictionary defines the term as; "having a great deal of money or assets; wealthy" and that still leaves a lot of wiggle room since it also depends on your lifestyle!

You need to put in the continuous study time, have discipline and a game plan that works for you. I suggest that you get into a game with rich people who have no skill and take them to the cleaners! Get a casino with tournaments that have a majority of beginning players to feed your poker bankroll.

There must be some angle.

Just remember, ultimately that poker is a game of skill and you need to sharpen them all the time - luck can only get you so far!
