Young bucks playing poker

Is it just me or do others see that the majoroty of young guys playing poker these days have what I call "espn-itis"?
They have learned to play watching tournement snipets on ESPN and have the tendency to go all in whenever they have a pair or any ace?
They have not learned the nuances of the game and yet have the testostrone to do the all in?
How many times have big pairs, aces and such proven to be losing hands for us experienced players?

It's true, the popularity of poker on tv has brought hordes of new people to the game. It is extremely popular amongst the high school and college crowd as well. They certainly aren't as experienced, but the shows do a pretty decent job of explaining different game situations, providing a sort of educational process that gives a new player a small edge up. Think about how many hands you had to play yourself before realizing a pair of 5's isn't that great.

and it's going to be worse in my eyes. I like more the real game then online.

If the people pay for a entry they play more carefully and / or need more skill.

( i don't talk of a 1$ entry fee.... )

I am not that Super in Poker but good enough to know what is a good Hand. lol

i was an espn poker fool and when i started about 1-2 years ago i had the "all in syndrum" but now i look foward to playin those guys....i love playin the internet kids in real face games...they get the clicky finger and have no way of hiding tells...love it

its more of a mentality thing than an age thing...my sons 13 and 16 play on-line and stick with quality hands and smart bets...its just that its not the same now that ppl are learning more from tv and on-line that its taking longer for them to click in on the real world and real play

I think what your talking about is more a product of "free"rolls rather than ESPN. When no money is at stake, players will go all in with just about anything.

Ehhh.. I know too many children to begin with that play almost every day in there lives.. Both of my children have HUGE tournaments like 3 times a month with over 20 kids?.. Well shouldn't say huge.. but for children that don't know the in's and out's.. it can be a very dangerous game considering most kids are playing with there allowance and lunch money..:icon_rabb .. Even then.. many kids don't play serious enough.. I believe in the future with children.. gambling is going to be a HUGE problem.. watch your kids.. I don't think us gambling is going to make it any better for them.. Make sure you have your credit cards locked away from your children once they get a little older.. Lol...

So I disagree.. I think.. the freerolls don't do anything.. I believe many kids play stupid.. because they are stupid!.. At least for right now..and at least in poker..

The amount of frustration they bring to the good players is immense. I just try real hard to play cautious until all the idiots and weak plauers have got KO'd.

Its hard though when you are sitting with A K, as I was a few nights ago. I had a pretty good stack. I raised about 6 x BB, everyone folds, one kid goes all-in, I call he shows 4 4. I am thinking "wtf". Anyway, the flops shows a 4 and I am out. I couldnt believe the guys luck.

Then yesterday I was playing a limit game, I raise all the way through, some guy calls, costing him about 3,000 chips, I am sitting with K Q suited. He turns 5 5, and there is nothing for him on the flop, turn or river! I mean 5 5? What was he thinking

I am just gonna play the odd freeroll and stick to buy-in tournaments from now on.

i think that its great that more young kids are taking up the game, most of them dont know what they are doing and the good ones are great for the new clean image of the game
