Well tonight, got dealt AK, ace came on the flop, great methinks but sadly villain has AA. Fortunately I had him well covered and was able to recover and finish 2/64.

I play it like it's a regular hand, just like any other, I'll only 3-Bet this hand in a Limpers scenario or with less than 15 BBs, I've noticed it's more profitable to hide the value of this hand and hope to hit an Ace on the board, that way I'll have the best Kicker and extract chips, rather than 3-Betting and not hitting an Ace or King and ending up in a bad spot.

If you play for long you would know even AA and KK can be pretty useless at times so I tend to play just as a normal card but with a bit more value

Of course I am happy, when I look down at AK preflop, because its a hand, that win chips in the long run. Its great for 3-betting or 4-betting, because it block a decent amount of peoples continue range and especially KK and AA. So you can win some nice small and medium sized pots preflop. And if you get action, you just play poker postflop.

I would rather have AK on a board like T83 rainbow than 44, since AK have more chance to improve on the turn and river. If its a multiway pot, I probably check and give up, if someone make a substantial bet. But if its a heads-up pot, and I am in position, I am still in a pretty decent situation. I can C-bet and sometimes take it down. Or when the opponent call, I can either improve to a strong top pair on the turn or check back and take a free card.

Or I can check back the flop and either improve on the turn and bet for value. Or perhaps call one bet from my opponent using AK as a bluff catcher and also still a draw with 6 outs to finally spike that top pair on the river. If you are comfortable with postflop play in general, then AK is no more difficult to play than most other hands. You just need to accept, that you are not going to win every single time.

The short answer is yes. Of course, it is a winning hand in the long run. Usually I play it agressively preflop. Postflop I have no problem with folding it, if I miss the flop completely and opponents show agression.

We just had an AK thread last week. AK is awesome. If we flop an A or a K we have top-top. We also have 6 outs to top pair on any weak board. AK is amazing. Love it.

Missed AK/AQ: Consider a c-bet when the board favors your range, but don't blindly c-bet every flop.

With AK/AQ, I try not to focus only on whether I hit the flop. I consider the position, the board and my opponent’s range before deciding whether to c-bet. If I miss, I don’t feel like I have to force the hand all the way to showdown.

That is definitely one way to play it! But probably a bit too aggressive if you completely miss the flop. Going all-in right away turns AK or AQ into a high-risk gamble unless the stack sizes or table dynamics specifically call for it.

This is always an interesting hand because its often over played and over rated (and i count myself guilty on this) - ive played and lost this hand recently but to put it in context, the way i have played it - has been due to my stack at the time and also a reflection of running card dead for a considerable time.
I rarely give information out on CC but on this occasion, i will bite - lol.
Jamming all in in SB/BB/early pos is risk filled - with the prospect of so many hands to follow...its asking to be called and recently it has with 99/AA and KK waiting.
There is value in seeing at least a flop/making a c bet but being disciplined to fold it if its a dry board works too.
It offers food for thought for jamming all in, especially early into a game.

The important thing for these combos is the timing of the tournament, if we are deep or short stack, we are close to the bubble! Generally always raise with those hands to play in HU. gl all

AK really isn't a good hand versus a pair, in my experience I tend to play it very carefully.

You hit the nail on the head. There’s no single rule for AK or AQ because it always depends on the situation.
For me, it changes completely if it’s a cash game or a tournament....... especially if you are near the bubble or at a final table where every pay jump matters. Position and whether they are suited or not change everything.
The only exception is if I’m short with less than 10BB; at that point, there's no thinking left, it’s a 100% automatic all-in for me😝😝😝😝😝
