The question is vague. AK and AQ even offsite are both strong hands that we would open from any seat at the table. Is there a more specific spot to be considered with either of these hands?

How do you play hand xx never has a simple answer. Even 72o is profitable to play in certain situations even though we would fold it pre 98% of the time.

So many threads about AK this week. I'm shocked at how many players undervalue or flat out hate this hand. More often than not AK is a gift from the gods. How badly are we misplacing this hand to lose without so much to hate it?

I think AK is one of the best hands you can get, especially when it’s suited. It gives you great preflop strength, strong drawing potential, and plenty of ways to improve after the flop. Of course, it’s not an automatic winner, and you still have to play it correctly depending on the situation. But if I’m dealt AK, especially AKs, I’m definitely not complaining. It’s a hand I’m always happy to see.

Doyle Brunson said he preferred it to aces because it was easier to get away from.

Shot:

AK is not a good hand

Chaser:

AK really isn't a good hand versus a pair

Talk about shifting the goalposts.

I agree that AK can be tricky, especially when you're up against a pocket pair. It's a strong starting hand, but it's still just ace-high before the flop, so it's easy to overplay it.

I think position, stack sizes and the action before the flop make a huge difference. I wouldn't say AK is a bad hand, but definitely a hand that can get you into trouble if you become too attached to it.

Again, what do we mean by carefully? What hands do we play carelessly?

Oh guys, its really not rocket science. AK is a premium hand. Top 3,5% of all starting hands. Period. Your opinion does not change it.

My a good hand but it's not always the best, you have to play with caution and depending on the rival you have in front of you.:)

I'm calling that all day and twice on Sunday, especially since we can knock him out. Why on earth would we fold that?

And what does it have to do with AK?

What exactly does it mean to "play carefully"? Preflop AK is a hand, that benefit a lot from taking the pot down uncontested or at least thinning the field. And for that reason its usually a mistake to not put in an extra raise with AK, when you have the chance to do so, although there are some exceptions to this, when we play with a deep stack.

Postflop AK is usually either TPTK or A high, and it should not be any more difficult to play than other TPTK or A high hands. Occationally we might lose a big pot with TPTK to someone, who flopped or turned a set on us. But this can also happen, when we have an overpair. In fact top pair block top set, so hands like AA or KK (as overpairs) are more likely to get stacked by sets than AK.

AK, benim tecrübeme göre, bir çifte karşı gerçekten iyi bir el değil; bu yüzden çok dikkatli oynamaya eğilimliyim.

I love playing AK, especially suited. For me, it's one of the best hands in poker; I can't complain about my winnings against peers. I play AK aggressively.
