Knowing how to stop is also part of the game.

When I'm tired or dizzy, continuing to play generally only worsens the results. Sometimes the best decision would be to just stop playing?

You should stop playing when your decision quality drops like when you’re tired, tilted, or chasing losses instead of thinking clearly. A good rule is to set limits before you start (time, buy-ins, or emotional state) and stick to them. If you’re no longer playing your A-game, it’s time to quit and come back fresh.

I think it can come down to simple things. For example, being too tilted, which stops you from thinking logically. Another is mental fatigue, when you don’t have the energy to play a full tournament or stay committed for something that lasts a long time. That’s usually a clear sign it’s time to stop.

You should stop playing when you want to continue. It keeps interest in the game and trains discipline.

If you play to make money, it's not recommended to play when tired, drunk, or tilted. Don't persist in making mistakes; establish a winning percentage, and if it drops below that level, stop.

When your mind gets tired and you notice that your playing quality has diminished, it's time to stop.

You’re right that playing tired or not feeling 100% just leads to worse decisions.

I’d add that a stop-loss can be useful too, not because of variance, but as a mental game tool. If you’re down and start to feel like your decision-making is slipping or you might force things, having a stop-loss in place can protect you from that.

So it’s less about the money, more about recognising when you’re not playing your A-game and stepping away.

Knowing when to stop playing poker involves both financial management and emotional control. If you've reached your predetermined daily loss limit or feel you're betting more than you can afford to lose, stop! If you feel anger, frustration, or impatience after a bad beat, it's crucial to stop immediately. Playing in anger leads to irrational decisions and greater losses.

I never play when I'm tired. Playing when I'm tired is dangerous for my bankroll. Since I value my money, I only play when I feel good and have enough free time.

When I see I start to make bad decisions because I'm tired or when I realize it's not my day and no matter how well I'm playing, I'll lose.

The smartest move in poker isn’t always all-in.
Sometimes it’s standing up, clearing your mind, and saving your bankroll.
Emotions can win hands, but discipline wins the long game.
Quit right, come back stronger.

If you can’t control your tilt, you can’t control your future.
The best players know when the game is no longer about skill.
Stopping at the right time is a strategy, not an escape.
Protect your mind, protect your money.

Winning players respect their limits.
They know that every session doesn’t need to be finished at the table.
Sometimes the biggest victory is leaving before things go wrong.
Discipline today builds profits tomorrow.

Set your stop-loss and win goal before the session. Hit either one? Quit. Discipline > everything else.

Absolutely. I’ve learned that some of my worst decisions happen when I’m tired, distracted, or just not mentally sharp. In those moments, I’m more likely to miss information, force plays, or make calls I wouldn’t normally make.
For me, knowing when to stop is a skill just like bankroll management or hand reading. Sometimes the most profitable decision isn’t playing another hand — it’s closing the session, getting some rest, and coming back with a clear mind.

It's hard to just stop if you are playing in 8-10. Maybe you can decide to stop registering in new games.
It's very important to plan the sessions before you start.

I play tournaments, so I never really have to decide when to stop. I play until I either make a run or bust out. Once my chips are gone, my session is over and it's time to call it a day.

You are totally right, knowing when to quit is a huge part of the game that many players just ignore.
The moment fatigue or dizziness kicks in, your brain starts taking shortcuts and you make lazy decisions like calling off chips when you know you're beaten or clicking buttons without a real plan.
For me, it's all about checking my emotional state. If I feel frustrated by a bad beat or find myself chasing losses, I just close the software immediately. Protecting your bankroll and staying fresh for the next session is always the smart play
