Hi guys.

How do I handle multiple tables simultaneously? What's your honest opinion?

I've noticed that when I play multiple tables at the same time, I get completely lost over time and often make incorrect bets at crucial stages of the tournament.

Sometimes it feels like I'm clicking on autopilot more than actually thinking about the plays.

When I play at fewer tables, I feel I think better and make qualitative assessments.

How do you deal with this?

Is there an acceptable average number of tables?

Is playing at 3 or 4 tables acceptable, but more than that inadvisable?

Another aspect I've noticed is the App's behavior; it becomes difficult to use…

I play on my laptop with reasonable memory, but would a desktop computer be better?

Are many small questions, but I believe that with your information, many other players in this community will also have their doubts somewhat reduced.

I handle only 2 tables at the same time. For me, anything more than that starts to reduce my performance — I notice I go into autopilot, miss important details, and make weaker decisions in key spots.
When I stick to 1–2 tables, I can actually think through ranges, reads, and bet sizing, which makes a big difference in my results. So in my experience, it’s better to play fewer tables well than many tables poorly.

I only play live, but I have seen lots of players playing live and playing on their phone or tablet at the same time lol so yeah, I wouldn’t be able to concentrate doing both at the same time!

For me it is better to play one table only if I'm playing with a mobile phone. I find it very disturbing if I need to completely switch the view. I mean I can do it, but I know it is bad for my game. And when playing with computer, I need good enough screen to have my tables positioned nicely. For me more than 4 tables don't make sense playing.

Well there's no acceptable number of tables... it depends on what you're comfortable playing👍

Sometimes I play on up to 8 tables at once, but you can't properly monitor all of them, so I don't recommend it. I think max. 2 tables are enough.

Honestly, what you’re experiencing is very normal—multitabling can quickly turn into autopilot if you exceed your comfort zone. If you start missing details or making rushed decisions, that’s a clear sign you’re playing too many tables. There’s no fixed number, but for most players 3–4 tables is a good balance, while more than that requires strong focus and experience. Personally, I believe it’s always better to play fewer tables with good decision-making than many tables poorly. As for your setup, a desktop or bigger screen can help with comfort, but the real key is staying mentally in control and gradually increasing the number of tables only when you’re ready.

In order to play on multiple tables we have to play a very structured strategy. We cannot make multiple decisions over and over and not reach decision fatigue-that is a real aspect of the human brain at a certain multiple of decisions our brains just stop working well.

In order to play multiple tables we have to do poker short cuts. We play AQ the same way in 90% of spots for instance.
We learn to do this off the table- we study our ranges and simplify our actions and then apply those simplifications on the ten or twenty tables we are playing.
Even so most people will still get overloaded when they first try to play that many tables.

I particularly notice a different behavior from the game app when I play on more than two tables.
Regarding the way of analyzing opponents, on two tables I can do it easily, but from three tables I get completely lost.:cautious:

I have had over 8 tables at time but i do today limit how many i have going at one time. 1 to 2 on average but up to 8 of series events but that due to overlaps of the session if i am deep.

You must have a lot of experience in the game to reach that point of 8 tables.

One day I'll reach your level 😅

I can play 2 or 3 tables confidently, 4 or 5 competently and 6 if they are slower tables. I've done over 8 but I've stopped doing that as I don't feel like I have time to think through things when multiple tables are in spots. I shoot for 4 tables but will go up to 6 regularly. I only go up to 8 now if there are lots of overlays and/or freerolls running at the same time.

If I'm deep in a bigger tourney though or have more than one FT I'll drop to 2 or 3 tables.

Get practice in small buyin tourneys and see how many you can handle. Then do 25% less than that lol

But what ends up making me most uncomfortable is mainly the app's behavior; it gets kind of slow when I play more than 3 tables. I don't feel good about it.

When the time bank starts to run, it gets worse.

Personally I prefer one or maximum two tables at a time!
Now matter how pro (big) you are, threesome and above feels exciting at the beginning but always creates more mess as you run deeper in your sessions! 😂

If you're having technical issues, absolutely don't push your luck. Missing an input is potentially catastrophic for your EV and winrate.

I'd play on my phone and computer at the same time to share the burden haha. If tech is the limit and not your attention that might be the way. Not being able to take notes really sucks though. Tough spot. Deep in tourneys its often even worth having other tables open that you're not playing on to watch the action so being limited to 3 tables would be tough.

Also shoutout for being a cyclist! I bike year round even in -20C weather. Always cool to see more bicycle bros.

There's a much more important reason why cash games are easier to play at multiple tables simultaneously, no matter if you sit out. Being timed out in a tournament can mean the end of your tournament life. It's all about practice, recognizing commonalities, having a basic strategy, and making decisions in less time. You'll get there eventually, so don't worry about doing what everyone else is doing. Stick to what works for you.

I believe the number at which you can continue to perform your strategy comfortably (whether it’s 1–2–3–4 or even more), When it comes to where to play, I like the convenience of the phone, but I think the computer is better due to easier access to information.

IMO multi-tabling depends a lot on each individual, similar with multi-tasking... you'll just have to figure out this by yourself with practice- if playing over a certain number of tables at the same time affects your game, you should lower the number and see how it goes- playing close to your A game for longer period of time will help your results much more than putting a lot of volume... about the autopilot- we study and accumulated experience to reach this level where we know what we're supposed to do in most spots, but if we make mistakes and/or don't pay enough attention to the table/s because of it, affecting our results- again it's best to just play fewer tables- I'll always take quality over quantity...

About playing on laptop compared to a desktop computer- I've started playing on a laptop and I still play from one sometimes(same with mobile devices- mostly when I'm not at home and/or is more convenient because of IRL stuff), but the overall experience is much better if you have a good desktop computer setup, preferably with multiple monitors if you like to listen to some music and/or watch YT/Twitch/live sport event... I'm not a tech person, but things tend to run much better on a desktop PC too and the new poker Apps require more and more resources with each update...

Well, I play with a maximum of 5 players. I feel that if I talk more, I get distracted and don't pay proper attention to the other players' movements.

Each person should play a number of poker tables that they feel comfortable with to practice a good game. I usually play comfortably at 6 to 8 tables, depending on the type of game.
