Min Raise?

I guess it happens when the blind is high, or the stacks are shorts. so a min raise is enough to create a nice pot or make the villain folds

I think the main idea of a min raise is so you can't tell exactly what your cards are. Because pre-flop, if we make higher bets with the strongest hands, it will be much more explicit to the players at the table.
That's why you just mini-raise so that other players can't know which hand you're really raising with.

I usually do them, if I have a premium hand before the flop, or on the fifth card, you can check, mini-raise, when they have practically won hands, or nuts.

I have seen a lot of Min Raises in online tournament? Is this a trend because live tournament they usually raise 3x or 3.5x. I see the value of min raise when the pay jump is bigger, and there are many short stacks; but I do not understand early tournament MIN Raise?

Can someone explain why we MIN raise? and What are the benefits of raising MIN?

Thanks
Tuan

The size of your initial bet will depend a lot on the type of tournament you usually play, when you play freeroll and micro stakes tournaments, the size of the bet doesn't matter much, as players at this level tend to pay a lot. I've only been playing freeroll tournaments lately, and one thing I've learned and I don't do anymore, is to make very high bets at the beginning of the hand, because, as they pay a lot, the pot gets very big and tasty, then they call until the river, trying to hit and usually hit.

Use the minimum raises as a tool to study your opponents and then to trap them... But in freerolls, at the initial stages, it is almost useless to collect statistics on the opponent, there are many beginners and those who quickly want to finish or increase the stack..

I notice it too, a lot of people min raise as a bluff or just asking a question - "What do you really have and how far are you willing to go?"
Either extracting more value or just trying to buy a pot off cheaply.

i dont like to play small bets when i have somthing i play agresive !

mini-raising is quite a popular technique, although now they use bets of 2.2-2.3bb more and of course, if there are a lot of limpers in the pot, then mini-raising already loses its meaning, since they will call according to the pot odds, in such a situation it is already necessary to raise a much larger size

Min Raise is used mostly in freerolls. It is not that great an idea I rather put a great raise in the game. Hopefully you all play this game like me.

the min raise is used to hide your game from your opponent's reading if you keep changing your raise according to your cards the good players will notice and they won't call your bet and you will pull 1 and a half blinds + ante only, the purpose of poker and steal your opponents' chips.

at the beginning of a deep stack tournament when you have a lot of chips and the blinds are low, it's okay for you to open 3x or 2.5x, I suggest you switch to 2x when the starting chips are worth 50 blinds even if you have more blinds is this strategy I use and I'm being profitable.

an example for you:

you are UTG+1 and you have pair AA and you raise 4x bb, nobody calls.

in the next orbit

you are CO and you have A10s and you raise to 2x bb and the big blind calls and your cards are revealed at showdown and everyone will see that you made that play.

in the next orbit

you are in HJ and you have pair QQ and you raise to 4x bb, everyone knows you have a hand but for your bad luck the big blind has pair of AA and makes you all in, you confidently call and the showdown is horrible for you .

so you are eliminated without having a chance to escape this move.

if you had raised to 2x bb and he would 3-bet you would call and see the flop if he kept betting you would fold and thus you would survive the tournament.

The starting stack is over 100bb then I would look large open raise size of 2.7x to 3 at the start of MTT from an early position. A number of players may call so premium hand to lose value. I would look at smaller raising sizing as the BB go down.
