Octopi Poker is about to release (Oct 1, 2026) a brand-new course that provides detailed instruction on how to use GTO Solvers. Their own trainer/solver tools are used as the vehicle to practice each concept. This course is a game changer!

If you‘re like me, you find GTO solvers complicated, maybe so much so that you try them for a bit, get frustrated and drop them. I’ve done that a few times, including with the Octopi Poker tools.

So, when they asked me if I’d like to take the “My First Solver” course for a test drive, I jumped at the opportunity. A week later I’m glad I did. I should point out that I am not being compensated for this review – I wish.

The course covers poker concepts that are supported by solvers but can also be used without a solver. It takes the user through every important decision required to play “one” typical hand from pre-flop to the river. It’s a neat concept. I won’t spoil the surprise, but it’s just the sort of perplexing hand we see a lot at the tables. And let’s face it, we don’t turn to solvers to learn how to play the easy hands.

The instructor, Matt Hunt, clearly knows poker and solvers inside and out. He explains everything in a way that most people should find easy to understand. The lesson videos are typically 5 – 6 minutes long followed by ample practice using the real Octopi Poker trainer/solver tools.

It took me a week to work through the course, but that included a lot of time back and forth providing Octopi with feedback. My guess for most people - a week of part-time study around your other daily activities is probably about right.

Octopi Poker uses the Discord server for users to ask how-to questions, get some expert poker advice and access technical support. In my experience the staff are very receptive and responsive.

I highly recommend the course for anyone who wants a strong grounding in GTO solvers!

This sounds great! I tried to dive into solvers before, and the amount of information is overwhelming at times, so I can only imagine how confusing that can be for someone who is completely new to it. The fact that you want to build the course around one hand from preflop to river seems like an excellent way to approach it, as it would allow to really grasp the concept behind every solver's suggestion, rather than getting lost in information.

The short videos followed by practice with the actual trainer also seems like a good way to learn. I would definitely try this out and see if it makes solvers less scary than they appear at first glance!

Hi Flyer,

Thanks for the kind review.

As far as pricing, the course costs $50 but is available for free with any annual plan or if you sign up with our $90 for 90 days plan for new users.

You can learn more about the course here.

Matt Hunt has an AMA coming later today for CardsChat where you'll be able to ask him questions about the course, GTO, or anything else poker-related.
