Is online poker the best way to learn how to play?

Honestly if you never win and this just your avg home game with basically not very skilled players you'd be just wasting your money playing online even at 2nl. Online is a lot tougher then live poker against friends on a Friday and Saturday night. Start by playing in CC bronze freerolls. You can also start by taking CC free 30-day course here.... https://www.casino.us/poker/strategy/become-a-winning-poker-player/

Fwiw there is also lots of great free stuff on youtube. Just search out these two names Jonathan Little and Carrot Corner-Peter Clark.

All the above should get you good enough to start winning in your avg home game against friends. And once start winning that game maybe take some of those winnings and deposit $50 on a poker site and start playing online if like. That even if you're not a winning player online you can lose slowly and over time and at least learn and get experience at a small cost. Poker can be a cheap hobby.

Cheers!!!

Just by the sheer amount of hands you can see its better than live for learning.

I think the best way to learn is to review your hands.

Yes, because you quickly learn the different game types and player types, you practice, and—whether you mean to or not—you pick up knowledge and experience. Of course, at first, it’s strictly freerolls.

I'm having a really hard time accepting some of the bad beats in online poker. I mean, even though game variance is real and I get that it's just part of it... losing every single time to the CL—regardless of whether I have them completely dominated—or getting hit with a 1% runner-runner against a reg or the CL is unbelievably frustrating. It’s really hindering my progress. Everything I study and try to put into practice just goes down the drain because of the weird patterns in these online poker Apps

Playing in a small, closed group versus playing with the entire internet is a completely different thing.

You won't learn anything playing with the same 6 guys in the basement unless one of them is a pro and is willing to teach.

Online is easily the best way to learn so long as you study your hands. Online you get tons of experience because the hands deal fast and you can multitable, plus you can use tracking software and review all of your hand histories.

Hello and welcome to the Cardschat forum🙂
I believe online poker offers a higher volume of hands compared to live poker.
As for live poker, it is also enjoyable and involves certain skills that cannot be utilized in online poker.
Overall, both are good and beneficial for any poker player.

NIn online gaming, you might need more preparation to gain experience before playing in person, but it's a bit different.

Online can be a very good place to practice because you find lots of hands quickly and can review them afterwards. But I wouldn't completely give up on live games, because online you will only learn the fundamentals and volume, while playing your friends will teach you how to adjust to certain people.
If you are losing to the same group consistently, I would start reviewing why you are losing instead of just playing more hands. Look for patterns such as calling too much, playing too many hands, or missing value bets. ♠️

I think online poker is a great place to practice. You can play many more hands in a shorter time, start at very low stakes or freerolls, and gain experience without risking much money.
But I wouldn’t focus only on playing more hands. Studying preflop ranges, position, and reviewing difficult hands afterward will probably improve your game faster. Then you can take what you learn online back to your games with friends and hopefully surprise them. 😄

That hand is brutal. Flopping a full house with 88 on AA8, getting the money in, and then watching KK come on the turn and river against K4 is exactly the kind of hand that stays in your head for a long time.

I understand the frustration with online poker because sometimes these unlikely situations seem to happen in clusters. But I try to separate that feeling from my analysis of the hand. If I got the money in as a huge favorite, there is very little to criticize about my decision. The result was terrible, but the decision was good.
For me, the danger starts when bad beats make me change a fundamentally correct strategy. I don’t want to become afraid of getting my chips in ahead just because the last few times ended badly. I can control my decisions; I can’t control those two cards that come afterward.

To some extent yes because that number of hands you can play online because you can mutitable not possible playing live

It's not bad..but not only onlineto play. Some literature is usefull to. Live play with friends at home. Online poker is good because you don't need people around you and you can play at any time you want.

Online play-money poker is perfect for practicing without the pressure of real stakes. You can play all the main variants, get plenty of hands in, and figure out what works. Life's a Gambol has free games with play money—top up 10,000 chips free once a day, and play as much as you want. lifesagambol.com

The best way to get better at poker is to study and drill hands off the table online . There are many sites that allow you to do that. You can even start doing it for free.
It enables you to get to a level of poker skill where you have internalized the basics and can now start to deviate based on player skill level at your table.
