What Is the Biggest Mistake New Poker Players Make?

I've been trying to improve my poker game, and I'm curious about one thing. In your opinion, what is the biggest mistake that new players make?
Is it playing too many hands, poor bankroll management, or making emotional decisions after losing a pot?
I'd really like to learn from experienced players, so I'd appreciate any advice or personal experiences. Thanks!

I think the biggest mistake new poker players make is playing too many hands. I made the same mistake when I started because I wanted to be involved in every pot. Now I know that being patient is a big part of winning poker.

I agree with the previous poster. You need to play fewer hands. I think I play less than 20% of the hands in tournaments, waiting for the best starting hands before taking action preflop. That said, everyone has their own playing style. The important thing is to analyze your own game and your tournament results so you can identify what you need to improve.

playing too many hands in early position is a common weakness . few poker players want to keep folding , but seasoned ones realize you seldom can risk entering the pot with a tableful of opponents trying to win your chips yet to act .

One of the biggest mistakes I see is playing too many hands because they're excited to be involved in every pot. Position matters a lot, and folding isn't a bad thing. Patience, good starting hand selection, and solid bankroll management will save new players a lot of money while they learn the game.

The biggest mistake beginners make is playing paid tournaments, beginners should play freerolls for 1 year before venturing into Cash Game and Paid Tournaments.

Players play too many hands - like way too many hands. We really shouldn't be seeing more than about 35% of flops max in normal deep stack action.

I believe that the reason that so many weak players play too many hands is that they learn poker from watching TV and TV only shows us the dramatic hands, the AA vs KK coolers, the the suckouts, the boat on the river that beats the nut flush. TV doesn't show us all of the pots taken down by the c-bet on the flop. The excitement of all of these monster hands makes people want to hit a monster themselves, and that is all that they know about the game, so they limp, limp, limp, and call, call, call praying to hit, hit, hit, and it's probably the worst way to play this game.

I would say that a very big mistake besides playing a lot of hands without really knowing much is that in the beginning after losing it is natural to feel the need to get your money back, so to continue playing and continuing to put money in the game knowing that you are playing badly for me is the worst thing that can happen to you, internal frustration, stress and you are also losing money

Tilt is the biggest loser for new players. Tilt effects you in many many ways. It will have you play more hands or fold incorrectly or put too much money into a pot or question your skill etc etc... It can affect you for months and has very many forms which are hard to fix for new players. Tilt even happens when we are winning.
