I've folded AK preflop many times. Sometimes you just have feeling someone has AA or KK even QQ or JJ. Maybe you are in a bubble and shouldn't gamble. Also folded KK a few times preflop and rightfully done so to AAs. Also of you are in a bubble for satellite and certain sports guarantees tickets and you are in, dont risk not making it with AA if you are already in. Prize bubbles yeah you are going for 1st place, but top 10 or top 25 and if you are in and theres a bubble. Fold everything even AA if you are risking 80% of your stack

Why not if I'm at the beginning or middle of a tournament and there's a raise and re-raise before me.

At the 99% of cases I would not fold AK preflop, except some very rare cases, like if the sequences of that day show that the AK loses many times and I was in a critical point of the game.

Hindsight allows me to say YES! If it feels like AK is on the short end of the "flip-to-be" then don't call, especially if you are over 30 BB's and have a chance to cash. Go w/your gut.

Absolutely, depending on the action before my turn to act. I have folded it on on the bubble and to a raise and reraise.

Yeah I def fold AK every once in a while. In tournaments it’s hard to fold. Usually I just have a good read on the guy and know he’s got a big pair. I’ll do it in sit n goes every now and then. If I have a read on the guy, I figure I’m a coin flip at best.

Big Slick most definitely! I have experienced the worst kind of loss with AK and I always raise especially if I'm in position.

Yup. If there's a ton of preflop action and there are multiple players raising and calling, I have no problem tossing my AK. Chances are one or more of the other players have an Ace or a K AND one or more of the other players have a pair, likely a big pair. So my AK has fewer than 6 outs (not counting the straight possibility).

This assumes the other players are good players. If I have tagged these guys as morons who will overplay KJ/KQ/AJ type hands I will call.

It's a tough decision. But if it was just me and one or maybe two other players, I think I would call. Mainly depending on my stack. You can't go far if you don't take a little risk. But if many enter, the situation becomes much more difficult...

Depending on how the action has been recently in the tournament I decide how to proceed with AK. Sometimes I fold them without a doubt. In particular when there are 3-4 limpers as it usually means they’ve got other Aces. Or if 3-4 people have gone all in, I would go all in with something like 6-7, 7-8 but fold AK undoubtedly. Heads up if I believe the opponent has got Ax rather than a pocket pair then I go for it.

I once did ina huge tournament at that & I was around 19 or 20 something bigs, I remember a guy calling me a nit right afterwards but it made sense sort of but it was a dumb decision tbh to win, I even lost a spot last night because I limped AK letting the guy isolate with jt n tripping on a sb who had AQ in a $1K FT

I would fold AK in case of a bubble, or if more than 2 people with a stack higher than mine go to allin:eek:

I hate nothing more than laying down a monster....

I fold Ace King and Ace Queen all the time pre-flop many times action on the table dictates such a play...
I promise you that to be successful poker player you are going to lay down monster hands on a daily basis....
And in my humble opinion Ace king is not a monster hand pre-flop, it is a premium hand but not a monster. There are only two monsters in my opinion preflop that's aces and kings and sometimes and I really hate these times the action on the table dictates laying down Kings preflop.
It's rare that it happens but it still happens...
For example a nit that four bets or five bets from hijack and His four betting or five betting range is 1% well I'm holding Kings so I'm blocking that hand (and even in the super rare time that he is holding Kings certainly wouldn't want to call to hopefully split)so he's got to have aces he can't have Queens because remember he's a 1%er so bingo bango my kings is going to the muck reluctantly and painfully but nonetheless those two boys going straight down the toilet rather those cards go in the toilet then flushing my hard earned cash in the toilet and to me being an 80% underdog is definitely throwing money away. Awful lot worse if I was holding Ace King in that situation..don't know how many times a day I end up having to lay down aces kings or queens and jacks "post-flop" and that always saddens me too.
But that's poker. Poker played correctly. Not gambling...
if I wanted to gamble I would shoot craps, pull the lever, or play the roulette wheel maybe even bingo but when it comes to poker... When in doubt....play it safe...
Adhering to this philosophy has kept my bankroll at an upward trajectory for 20+ years. (Until I lost it all due to cancer but that's another story)
I could write a three-page article about when to lay down Ace King pre-flop...
The Format that I play now (fast fold)Boost
I can play or see about 3,000 hands a day so laying down Ace king is not that big a deal.
And if you're playing online poker and you're not using some sort of hud in this day and age it's like playing with your hands tied behind your back... I use drivehud, through drivehud you can also get Apps like leak buster which are crucial to improving your game and strategy. you're able to see exactly where you're being exploited and can fix this leak in a snap!

In this Hand played below I played an hour ago,
Player donk bet the flop so I put villain on top pair weak kicker... When he continued on the turn I figured it was top pair with a draw and by his bet sizing I figured it was the backdoor draw since the nine was in the first draw... I raised he called so I'm drawing even a stronger conclusion that he was on the back door then came that nasty River...
Spiked the flush he checked he checked ....
Wait am I drawing a wrong conclusion oh I see he put me on the flush draw Miss and was hoping I would love at it.I checked behind I lose the minimum.
The only bet that I would have called would have been somewhere in nature of 20% because I was pretty damn certain that he hit the flush so it would have been a crying call and I would not have liked it but again you have to stick with the percentages.
If he had tried to extract value and bet half pot ,pot bet or shove I would have folded so fast it would have made his head spin. But lucky me he put me on a missed draw
Not trying to turn that hand into a bluff no thanks!
But I don't consider what I had being a monster hand but on the turn it certainly was the best hand he made a bad call and hopefully tomorrow he'll continue to make bad calls. Chasing Rivers when he knows he's beat. It would have been perfectly fine for him to shove on the turn and of course I would have had to call and it would have been another bad day on the poker table but guess what...
That's poker
That's how we're able to make profit always making the best decisions sometimes we will fail miserably but that's life...
if you have any questions let me know I'll be happy to answer the best of my ability
cheers hopefully all this typing wasn't for nothing!

I will fold Ace King depending on the pre flop. It all depends on how the players are playing their hands. This can mean that maybe some have pairs in their hand that would beat my Ace King.
