I think the rule would be: Phone must be allowed only in the breaks. No one could know what the player is doing in his phone, if is receiving information on previous hands, third people advice or consulting some kind of software.

I agree with our member's previous comment. I also believe that there should be one rule for everyone. The phone can only be used during breaks.

I don't know why they don't just have a rule >> No phones period! (only during breaks). Like what is the upside to having phones in the game? FFS, people have become babies attached to their phones. Admittedly I'm on the extreme opposite to most... I do my best to keep my phone turned off for a good portion of the day.

Considering that poker is a sport and competition, I think at tournament levels, championships organized by organizations there should be uniform rules, turn off mobile phones during competitions

That's why I don't like to play live, there is so much distraction going on, and no time limits for action.
So, thinking as it is, cellphones should be left aside from the table, if anyone wants to use them, then do it out of the table, sitting out.

I would forbid the use of the phone during the game. A simple rule, you can use the phone during a break, or just leave the table during the game. Everyone has to decide for himself what his priorities are.

I believe that the cell phone can be used for the good of all as in the case of a developer has one to mark the time for example, but for players maybe it should be banned from the moment you sit at the table.

Definitely prohibit the use of the phone during the game. In my opinion, this is unacceptable. It can distract others, affect their emotional state, and in addition, the use of the phone can be used for fraudulent purposes.

I don't play live poker, but I think using phones is not appropriate for this kind of game. If we consider poker a serious game, then it should only be poker. It would look strange if, for example, the goalkeeper of a football team took a break to use his phone during the game.

I've never played live poker in a casino or a poker club. But judging by everything I've read, and based on my own reasoning, I think having a phone while playing poker is only allowed in one case, when someone calls you or another player at the table, because sometimes there are very important calls that cannot be missed. In other cases, such as social media or watching some videos, it should be prohibited, because then the player becomes inattentive and does not follow the game and thus annoys other players.

I believe that nothing should be at the table. This applies to phones, all kinds of food, and the like. If you have an urgent call, leave the table. Almost everyone gets annoyed when the game drags on and someone does it on purpose to piss off their opponent.

Cell phones are fine at the table provided that the player does not have live cards in front of them. There is a flow to the game that is necessary to protect so any player who is in a hand should not be distracted by a device. However, because of the age we live in, unfortunately prohibiting phones from the table entirely can't be enforced - with the one exception being if the player is on a TV table and then that just doesn't look good on camera.

I think if a player is using there phone, they should get one waring to put It away, before they have to either hand there phone over, or be disqualified. I also think any game where serious money is on the line should have a no cell phone policy, and players should hand there phones over when they go to sit at the table

A mobile phone at the table is so irritating for me that I automatically stop the game. I have never admitted that the reason for interrupting the game is precisely the mobile phone, but I say that the reason is of some other nature, because those who use a mobile phone at the table do so consciously and intentionally. I don't like them.

In Poker rooms in my city São Paulo they allow phones during tournaments but except if your using Whatsapp or talking with somebody else. Others like to play online poker while playing live. xD

When I play live tournaments I like to listen to music using my phone, so maybe adding rules about not using your phone during a hand would make sense.

I definitely think that using a phone during a live game should be banned. If a player needs to use the phone, he can do so during the break.

I think that this would be the correct thing to do: you will only be able to use your smartphone when you are not playing the current hand (you folded this hand) or if the game is paused by some reason.

Although I agree excessive phone usage is annoying - it is allowed (at least in most tournaments I’ve been in) to take / consort with notes as long as you’re not in a live hand.

Banning entire phone usage would be problematic without changing that rule.

But dealers should more readily enforce “no phone use if you have an active hand”.

If it’s your action and you’re on your phone - or you’re on your phone after looking at a live hand - should automatically kill it.

Does anyone remember when there weren't any phones at the table because, ahem, there weren't any phones. The concept is not unheard of. There was a time when players didn't want to be disturbed when they were playing. Which raises the question what is so important on a phone that it distracts players from the game they're currently playing in?
I blame Ritalin.
