Talking at the Table: Do you like a noisy game or a quiet one?

I love a lively and talkative table because poker tournaments are a social game, and also a game where you often run into the same people so you do tend to get to know each other a little bit. For me anyways it makes the competition that much more enjoyable. Over the past eight years of playing tournaments I've made quite a few poker friends while at the table. Sometimes the friendly joking that other mentioned can lead to making a new friend or two.

Most recently while I was in Vegas on my birthday trip, I was playing a bounty tourney at South Point. One of the players started kidding me by saying that he was worried my little wolf Filotima was going to bite him and suggested that I put her on a leash.

I told him something like she was okay and not aggressive unless someone rivered me with 72o or a similar hand. He got a kick out of that and we'd each found a new friend. Turned out that his name is Reggie, and I could see that he was one of those people who is the life of the table and enjoyed talking as much as I do. Ed was another nice man who'd I'd talked with quite a bit during other tourneys and he ended up winning, followed by Reggie in 2nd, me in 3rd, and a young man in 4th. Ed is to my right and Reggie to my left and I don't think that I heard the young man's name. Poker people are the best and if we weren't talking we never would have really gotten to know each other.

I prefer to play with a focused mindset, whether online or live. Of course, the atmosphere is different in certain online tournaments, like the CardsChat community, private games, where we tend to interact a little more at the table. The same applies to live play in smaller tournaments with friends or acquaintances, besides playing poker, we’re there to have some fun at the table too!
However, to be consistent and profitable in online play, I don't think being very active in the chat or using emojis helps in nothing, on the contrary in my opinion.. lol

I am pretty quiet at the table; I'm polite when spoken to but don't discuss tactics/strategy/etc. around hands played nor do i respond to politics and needles. I definitely listen to table banter as you can pick up things that may help you. I'll be posting a good example of this in my blog shortly.
