It hurts them, just like the addons and rebuys. A lot of rec players do not do the addons and rebuys and are at a huge disadvantage to those that did.

The longer a bad player has to play the worse their chances of cashing.

Just like deep stack play favors the player with the skill advantage.

This is a question like, "Does tea or coffee help you more?" :)
Late registration is an option that allows you to participate in a tournament if for some reason you did not have time to register before the start. And the results of the game will depend on your skills, experience and luck. Does late registration affect your skills, experience or luck? I don't think it does.

I personally don't like late registrations, especially those that take hours

I would like the longer registration reinstated in the Replay freerolls. Would help people like me trying to get out of bed at 5 and 6am on frosty mornings to have an extra time incentive!

The later you register, the stronger the field will be, because many of the fish will have already been eliminated. The later you register for a tournament, the lower your ROI will be, due to higher variance.

Long late registrations generally help recreational players by giving them flexibility and letting them skip the slow early levels, even though they start with a shorter stack.

Honestly, long late reg is amazing for recreational players… emotionally 😭
You skip 4 hours of card-dead suffering, avoid getting slowly blinded down, and enter fresh with 25–40 BB ready to gamble.
The problem is: it also helps good regs maximize EV while minimizing variance 😅
So rec players feel happier, but the sharks are also quietly registering with perfect stack depth and a coffee in hand like: “ah yes, time to print.”
Poker somehow found a way to make both sides happy and miserable at the same time 😂

As players we dont decide, what kind of games, sites choose to offer, so its pretty weird to ask, if this or that format "help recreational players". We only choose, which games to play, so a more sensible question would be "do you like tournaments with long late registration periods"? Or alternatively "if a tournament has a long late registration period, do you prefer to enter early or late"?

nothing wrong with late registration... it's a good plan if you are well versed in short stack play . but the original question is about long late signups , which i hate . like others have said , lots of players do multiple buyins , which makes it harder for those that are only firing one bullet .

I think it depends a lot on the recreational player
For those who don't have much time, late registration can help a lot because it avoids spending hours playing initial levels. But at the same time you enter shorter and with less room for error.

Shhhhhh. Let them continue busting early. If you don't like playing 'rip it or skip it' though the slight EV gain isnt worth being forced into playing shortstacked.

If I late reg, it's with the intention to fire more than one bullet. ;) It's a waste of time if you don't fire more than one.
