Hey, what does everyone prefer when playing tourneys - your stack to be displayed in Big Blinds (BB) or chips....

I used to play with chips at first when I was new to the game - but as time went by, I realized playing with the BB display helped me maneuver better on games and when to be aware that I had to starting pushing before I start sinking and also how to maintain an average stack size...

What are your thoughts??

I like to play with displaying chips, because if you play live, you also have only chip and must count your BB by yourself.

I started as livepoker player so I also kept the display on chips online.
I changed to BB when I started to play exlclusively online .
Just a nice help when you don't have to calculate yourself how many blinds you have left.
Especially helpful when you're playing multiple tables imo

For mainly online playing BB is the convinient way. To train Live Play and BB calculations leaving chip view may be ok for tournament play.
You should do this on your preference of live vs. online, cashgame vs. tournament play.
Also most training sites ranges are normally in BB not in Chips.

There is a good reason to avoid converting chips into big blinds in satellites, as the prizes do not depend on final stack sizes. That said, there is a certain "target stack" to aim for as you approach the stage where you need to fold everything.

I'm more comfortable with BB, but I use the chips when I need them.

I definitely prefer having my stack displayed in Big Blinds. For me, it makes it much easier to understand the relationship between my stack, the bet size and the pot. Looking at the number of chips alone doesn't always tell me much, because the value of those chips changes as the blinds increase. Having 30,000 chips might sound like a lot at one point in the tournament, but it can be a completely different situation a few levels later. When I see my stack in BB, I can immediately understand how much room I have to play. It also helps me decide when I can be more patient and when I need to start looking for better opportunities before the blinds eat too much of my stack. I also like being able to compare my stack to the size of the pot in BB. It gives me a better idea of how much I'm risking with each decision and whether a bet or call represents a significant part of my stack. So for me, BB makes the whole tournament easier to read. Instead of thinking, "I have 25,000 chips," I can think, "I have 25 BB," and that tells me much more about my actual situation at the table.

I have tried both ways and found i prefer chip size over the blinds. Not sure why but it seamed easier for me that way,

It was uncomfortable for me at the beginning as well but as soon as i got used too i never went back. Poker is played in BB's and its just a simplification. So playing in BB is at the end much more easy because u need to calculate less.

Not playing in BB's and having issues with it can be actually described as leak.

I prefer the following setup:
1) Cash tabkes I have $$$ showing.
2) MTT's I have BB showing.

Cheers!!!

At first I play with BB and when they start to grow I switch to chips and that's because I feel a different control when I bet. BB are already very large and to use for example 0.3 BB I prefer to see better the chips used!

I definitely prefer BBs in MTTs. It makes it much easier to see how much room you actually have to play, without being misled by the chip count itself. 30,000 chips can mean something completely different at 10 BB than at 30 BB.

I play live but I always calculate stack sizes in my head to big blinds. All of my strategies are based on mine and my opponent’s stacks converted to big blinds.

I’d go with BBs for tournaments. Seeing 20 BB tells me more immediately than seeing 100,000 chips, especially when playing multiple tables at different blind levels. It’s one less calculation to make.

I wouldn’t call using chips a leak by itself, though. As long as you understand your effective stack and adjust as the blinds increase, either display can work. BBs just make that easier.

Definitely BB for me. Once it goes deep it becomes a lot harder to judge chips by as blinds are constantly increasing and decreasing. Being able to see 25BB vs 12BB immediately tells me how much breathing room I have and when I need to tighten up. 😂 Still useful but makes stack sizes and decisions much easier to process quickly. 🃏

SituationInformation that is usually most practical
Cash gameBB
MTT for most of the tournamentBB
Short stack playBB
Push/fold decisionsBB
Comparing stacks for ICMBB + chips
Bubble / payoutsChips + BB
Comparing with chip leader / averageChips
Learning to play with depthBB

Although I am mostly online player so for me converting into bb is more conducive but on contrary who is like player playing directly in chips more conducive because in live there is no way to convert in bb

I’ve been playing poker for about 10 years now, and my stack has always been displayed in chips by default. I’m so used to it that I don’t change a thing. But generally speaking, I don’t think there’s much difference, provided you have a basic grasp of maths at Year 1 level.

Chips only, I want to see how much cash I have at all times. 👌🏻🙏 great question tho. There are times when Im ahead and I want to know how many rounds I can sit out for and cover my blinds. so then i switch to BB's for a better quick view and guage my estimates

In BB, you have fewer calculations to make.

When I play online poker, especially tournaments, I prefer having my stack displayed in BB (big blinds). I find it much easier to understand my position in the tournament that way...

I completely agree with you; I was like you at the beginning too, but now It's impossible for me to play with chips
