Person was right not to trust online poker sites back then. Too many of those sites had serious scandals at one point or another and why they're not around today.
When Black Friday came I really wasn't in trouble but knew a lot of folks that were because their money was locked up.
Most of those sites really did a number on their customers in one way or another.
And I'm still wondering why Russ Hamilton never went to jail for what he did, lol. So I still have my doubts about online sites.
I used online stuff as a means to practice and never anything else.
If people love the convenience and action of online poker then all I can say is cheers and good luck to them.
But for me there were a few issues that I didn't like about online poker like disconnection issues in the middle of big spots, or little things like a table closing really fast as if everyone knew one another or even back then, there was software for strong players to hunt down fish and go after them.
There were just too much nonsense online for me and I didn't feel safe and felt I was at a disadvantage against weaker players online and that's crazy but I definitely didn't like all the software and tools like with HUDS and the like that folks could use online that gave them skills that took me years to develop. Now its charts and calculators and nonsense.
I just didn't like it and felt live play was where they couldn't use all those aids so I definitely wanted to play folks live rather than online.

Yeah im sure chuck tryed out some freerolls by now and his bankroll grew over those 16 years when he wrote that post
Yes. ChuckT actually became an online crusher (pre 2010) in cash games.

pokerstars is safe. They've been the most reputable poker site for a long time, and always take precautions when New laws and regulations come up. You can lose money easier and faster online but stars is a safe choice lol at least you'll get paid if you win.

Don't deposit. Qualify for all the Cardschat freerolls and build a bankroll using them.
You will also have to build a very good knowledge on how to play Hold'em. That takes study and time. It won't happen over night.

Young, smart, quick learner, talented at poker. I guessed after he left CC there was a better than average chance he would move on from poker, Black Friday or not. No idea where he is now, but hope he didn't waste all that potential screwin around poker rooms.

I had this issue and was afraid to lose my money to online poker. Huge anxiety. But, remember, with anything new you learn how to do properly, you have to pay "the tuition". There is literally no way around it. Whether you learn a job from others, study at university or take a private course, you pay someone in money or time to learn how to do the job you wish to be doing.
Poker is no different. We all pay our tuitions and eventually start earning from our jobs. It's universal. And whoever says otherwise, they lie. First you pay, and then you earn. Full stop.
Best way to go about it is to think like a child. Children don't care and don't plan ahead. They just do it and get obsessed over anything they try to do. They do it for fun and enjoy every little step of it.
I played freerolls, gathered a bankroll, lost some, gained some, studied, practiced, deposited some insignificant sums (which I eventually gained back). I'm still not ready to deposit huge amounts because I feel like I don't have enough experience, and I can't afford to lose anymore than what I am playing for now. However, I am slowly building several small bankrolls until they become fortunes or until I feel comfortable with my skills to risk more and move up the levels.
Right now I'm still at the stage of cleaning floors and scrubbing toilets. And there's a looong way to get to sit on that chair in the office.

I haven't had any problens in ACR. I use my Cash App and it's great. My deposits are usally completed within 30 minutes and my withdrawals are usually there within 24 hours. It's great. Thumbs up ACR.

I only have ONE BIG SITE that i don't trust, i've made a thread already about losing on the river with 90% plus favoritism and noticed that the problem was that specific site, i won't tell the name but i think we can fell what sites seems unfair. Bad beats happens, it is part of the game, but when a winning hand loses almost 80% of the time, something is going on.

They have a script that make you win sometimes and lose other but in the end it depends to you and your game style if you play safe you will never win on poker you need to gamble sometimes and make a bold moves to win the hand.

The debate of the thread's title whether you can trust online poker or not, is according to time, which, how.
Time: If we talk about the time the player wrote the post, I'd totally agree with him because online poker in 2006 was still new, and not much developed as now.
But now after many years of running and improving, it cant be a scam from day one and still be present.
Which: For who are you playing with your money for? A big poker room with a good reputation would never hurt you in my opinion.
How: Take online poker as hobby where you are willing to risk money and wouldn't care about it.
So, to be safe online poker if you cant trust it, just play on a good site or room and with spare money, and if you still cant trust and afraid just stick to live poker.
