I couldn't speak for others. But as a recreational player. It's tuff azz nails. Because you're not just competing against skilled players. You're also playing against paytowin players too (people playing below there bankroll)

Online poker is rigged. I don't recommend it, except for freerolls.

Yes, online poker is still beatable in 2026, but it’s much tougher than before. Games are more competitive, players study more, and tools have improved the average skill level. To win consistently, you need strong fundamentals, discipline, game selection, and constant adaptation. The easy money is mostly gone, but skilled and hardworking players can still succeed.

For me, the problem is that it's kind of hard to do something that really makes a difference.
Most of the time, even when you win, you don't feel like it was worth the time spent. And time is probably the most valuable thing we have.
Spending hours playing to win just a few dollars can be frustrating. Sometimes it even seems that freerolls give better results than low buy-in tournaments, even if they play well.

Poker is a zero zum game with rake, so by definition there will always be more losers than winners. If online poker is "profitable", depends on your definition of that word. Its not easy to become rich from online poker. But its also not that difficult to make a small side income like $200-500 per month playing micro or low stakes games in your free time.

I think it’s still beatable, but the approach has totally changed. Back in the day you could just play ABC poker and print, now you need to study spots and understand why you’re making decisions. That said, not everyone is grinding solvers 24/7… there are still plenty of recreational players, especially in low stakes and softer sites. If you focus on good table selection and avoid reg-heavy pools, there’s definitely still money to be made 👍

แค่สงสัยเฉยๆ…
For me, the average player is still good enough to make a profit. Just exercise a lot of awareness and patience, maybe use a little bit of money.

I don't think they're going to change that. Obviously, you have to keep learning new things to improve, but that's part of developing as a player. It's not impossible; there's simply more competition.

Online poker is for everyone. First of all, for those who want to have a good time and have fun. And the majority of them, I think 80%. The 20% that remain can potentially make a profit. You just have to make a choice, which part of the players you belong to.

I'm just a recreational player. As a recreational player I have never made a profit online. I play poker because I enjoy it, but I don't see any money back. Who knows, maybe there's lots of professional poker players online, maybe I'm not that good, maybe it's slightly rigged, maybe they use house bots. I don't play such high volume to be able to compare the live to the online variance, but it just feels that there's more online variance.

Today, poker at mid-stakes and above is no longer a competition of who can press the continuation bet key on a dry board. It's now a contest not only of skill and mental toughness, but also of technology and access to the right ecosystems. If you think you'll be able to simply hit the "Play Now" button on a major platform in 2026 and cash out for years, you're sorely mistaken. Public lobbies are turning into fishbowls with extremely clear water: regulars can see right through each other, rake eats away at any advantage, and the room's security team views you as an undesirable element draining money from the system.

I am an average recreational player. I have only made 3 deposits in my life of $100 each, two of which were birthday gifts from my son. Three times, and I am just $21 away from a fourth time, I have gone from zero with no deposit to $1000. I do this by playing the 888 $300 freerolls almost daily. Over the last 6 months, I have won three times and finished in the top 10 maybe twenty times. I play some micro stakes cash games as my bankroll increases. It takes me about 6 - 8 months to go from zero to $1000...but I play for fun, not profit...the money is just a measure of how I'm doing, and provides me with entertainment playing poker...BTW...I have never withdrawn cash from a poker site. Once I get over $1000, I just play higher cash game stakes until I lose it all...then start over again.

So, the answer to your question is of course it can be profitable...don't rush it...take it slow and be patient...also, don't play when you're dead tired or drunk.

If you are serious about it you can make money. But have to put a lot of volume and study in order to make it

Is online poker still beatable in 2026 ?

(IMO) Yes- online poker is still beatable in 2026, but I have to agree with (most) of the members above that the games nowadays are definitely tougher compared to for example the poker boom years... even if you're not a pro, you can still improve your chances of winning by studying to constantly improve your level of skill, discipline, good bankroll management and smart game selection- there are still plenty of players depositing money just for fun at all stakes, especially in softer markets and/or from regions where poker is growing... profitable games exist (IMO will always exist), we just need to find them rather than constantly playing against the toughest regular-filled tables!

PS. Game selection might become one of the most important skills...

I believe so, but it has become more difficult as players study more and become more professional. It's definitely possible.

Online poker has never been profitable for ordinary players. The reason is that they are "ordinary". In order for online poker to make money, you have to be an extraordinary player.

I totally agree with you on this. People need to be realistic. Unless you're this prodigy and grinds online everyday. You can never be profitable in my book. A whale has some chance because they can essentially play unlimitedly. A normal person can never have this chance.

Bankroll stability is key when you get a certain lvl. Which isn't that much higher than a fish or donkey player.

Has getting a profit harder online than in the past? Yes it has but it does not mean it is not passable. Strong learned player will make money in the online games.

For me, it's profitable for everyone; if you don't want to face professional players, you play tournaments with low buy-ins and you'll easily face amateurs.

it"s still profitable, but it"s not as easy as it used to be, nowadays there are too many players studying using solvers and making fewer mistakes so the overall level has risen.
