Random Number Generators (RNG)- Are they really that random?

Meh

I believe the RNGs for the more regulated sites like pokerstars aren’t bad. Pros play those all the time without complaint, so I think they can be trusted. Now the unregulated offshore poker sites… oh man that’s a different story. Some of those are either straight up involved with super user cheating accounts or are just using an RNG with a majorly recurring “suck out” algorithm lol. Those offshore online sites should be avoided. The ones regulated in the US only available to limited states are fine because if they have any bad tactics they either wouldn’t be used by the pros or would be shut down by the feds ASAP. The offshore ones are not because they aren’t subject to any fed jurisdictions. That’s my understanding. They could literally cheat you and never get in trouble because they’re located in Panama. Good luck!

Most of these sites are massive corporations that have shareholders and have multiple millions of dollars in revenue. It would be stupid for them to rig a RNG to cheat when they make money for just being there and having the software.

Also if you truly think it's rigged its pretty dumb for you to keep playing, you're only wasting your own time.

Thankfully it isn't rigged and so long as you enjoy it poker is an enjoyable way of spending your time

They are random in the sense that the house doesn't care who wins.

But the cards are definitely not random insofar as the amount of action you see on the board and the frequency with which the hand leader changes from the flop to the turn to the river. It is in the room's favor to deal players strong hands so there is more action, hence more knockouts, thus more players buying into other tournaments....

I think its stupid to keep playing on the sites if you think that it is rigged, for me its just a matter of luck and skill

Yes they work, no they dont..lol. I think they work well because its a program, im not saying it can't be altered but I don't worry about it, good cards come and bad as well. I need to worry about my lottery numbers more. Good luck. 😀

I totally agree with this!

Many times I have asked myself this question, especially the rival always changes the winner

Repeats or finding yourself in the same situation over and over again may be the players fault if you're playing a certain way or it may be rng running a specific route, but either way play to the best of your ability or take a break and see if things change.

I just stick to the theory that there is no reason to run an illegitimate site. With how much ACR must rake every day, why would they risk it?

It also dawned on me a long time ago that I always seem to remember the beats I take while forgetting about the ones that I put on other people.

I would like to believe so and focus on my game. Sometimes the action online can be too much to take. But it is what it is.

RNGs is virtual random so it not true random. U can play guitar in real and your can play in virtual, Its maybe same sound but its diffirent. So I think it the same things but diffirent.

RNGs need a seed for the number generation and programmers learn how to generate seeds.

Have you ever seen the Navy CIS episode with the lava lamps?

I agree, that playing on regulated sites is more safe in general, but for some people like the majority of americans its unfortunately not an option. And its a pretty big leap from saying, that the regulated sites are safer to saying, that all the unregulated sites are cheating their customers.

They do after all have a business to lose, if they get caught, and some of them have been around for many years. So without strong evidence of the opposite, which nobody have presented so far, its definitely most reasonable to assume, that the card dealing on these sites is just as random, as its supposed to be.

Random number generators (RNG) - if only you believe in miracles 🙂.
Having played in many poker rooms, I can only say that there are some patterns. The advantages of poker rooms are obvious. A friend had a casino in a small town, he said that he has the opportunity to make zero chances of winning.

The question should be why would the sites random generator not be correct? The sites dont win the money, the sites dont win the hands. Its the players. If you were to ask me it the cards are perfectly random like actual card I would say no but the differences are minimal in my opinion.

WOW,

Someone figured out how to start another is online poker rigged "thread"?? Oh boy, you know "pro" players , play a tournament day with anywhere up to $200,000 in buy-ins, even pros that don't have the fame of the "best" play buy-ins in the tens of thousands of dollars. Now, my point is, these guys keep a database of hands, many of them have investors or at least friends that examine the tourneys, after the fact to evaluate play. Do you really think that with all of the review that goes in to poker, everyone would NOT see if something was happening?? In fact, Back in the day, when a site did have a superuser, the players figured it out.

I guess people will always start these threads, I guess this is how people lose money and do not have to worry about getting better. It is easier to say "poker is rigged" than to say "I suck, I need to improve"

RNG is a red herring

I love the way everyone falls for the RNG controversy and doesn't see the big picture. Poker sites spend a lot of money keeping this going. RNG's do NOT deal the hands they merely create the seed number that generates the deck. This number is then USED by SOFTWARE to generate the deal and hands. What people should be asking is the software vetted as honest.
I play a lot, over 20 years and have seen so many things online that don't match up with real life poker, there are some commonalities though. EVERYONE who has the nerve to suggest online is rigged gets shouted down, but then the same detractors say Oh if it was rigged people would complain....kinda a double standard there. If you are suspicious do your research, for instance I played on Pokerstars lite, omg the bad beats so I commented in the reviews. Got a reply from a representative(probably a bot reply) that their RNG is certified by a certain company.. actually took the time to find that company and email them. To my surprise I got a phone call from VP saying to his knowledge his company doesn't certify them....nuff said.
And before everyone piles on with the oh they wouldn't risk their reputation with cheating, blah, blah, blah there are literally hundreds of millions of dollars at stake in this industry, there have been cases of sites being dishonest before, don't believe that just because a site hasn't been caught out yet that they are squeaky clean.. Use your OWN powers of intellect and discrimination to make your own determination.

A bit of luck and skill to use it. But most often they remember when the random number generator is against you)

The most common conspiracy theory is, that in cash games poker sites earn more rake, if the pots get big, so they have an interest in creating cooler situations or "action boards". This month I actually played a few short cash game sessions on PokerStars, so we can look into my tracker and see, how many of these crazy "action hands", there actually was. I played 299 hands at 10NL, and I was all in..... drum beats.... zero times.

Whats at work here, as with all the other conspiracy theories, is typically confirmation bias. It sucks to lose a big pot, and therefore we remember those set-ups and action flops, where for instance we flop a set, and someone else flops a combodraw, and then they get there on the river, and we lose our whole stack. But we dont remember all those hands, where we won or lost a small pot without showdown. And once the idea has been planted, that maybe its rigged, we will see every single big pot, even those we are not involved in, as evidence of our theory.

In tournaments the poker site dont rake each pot, but this does not stop the conspiracy theorists either. So for tournaments they have developed "the big stack always win" theory. This is based on the idea, that if players bust faster from tournaments, they might end up playing more tournaments, which will then earn the poker site more rake. And once again confirmation bias kicks in, so that every single time someone with KK is busted from the tournament by someone with A5, its seem as "proff" of the theory.

Exactly. Not to mention the classic "I have been playing live poker for 25 years, and I am winning there, but I am losing online, so online must be rigged". This is a lot easier than realising, that you are winning in live poker, because your opponents are really bad, and/or you are good at live reads, but when you move online, you are a fish, and/or you are not adjusting properly to different player pool tendencies. In low stakes live games weak players can often be pushed around, but good luck trying that online, when you have bought in for 5$ or maybe even registrered for a freeroll.

Yes the conspiracy theory's are out there and I have heard them. Have a friend who has been trying to convince me of the tournament one for years. He will blame every site for this but never look at his play as the possible issue. I have given up trying LOL
