So that indicates there is no meaning for Ivey to play again in the WSOP until he settles the dispute he has with the Borgata , doesn't it ??

I'm not sure why. Let's assume the debt to them is legit & every court in the land would uphold it, then every dollar he wins at wsop (& the marshal takes) is one less dollar he has to pay out of his other assets. Given that, I'd think he'd be incented to play where was most profitable for him.

Unless:
  1. You think his true motive is to skip out on the debt, and then he'd want to play where a court wouldn't seize his winnings; or
  2. He relies on backer funding his buy-ins so that they might be nervous they wouldn't collect on the winnings.

Cleanly the incentive to play in the WSOP is now gone for Ivey. Unfortunately when money is involved people will do some regrettable actions in efforts to obtain it. The guy made millions and still had to cheat (obviously gaining an edge through an error in the deck is against he casino rules) in order to make more. For such a sharp guy I’m shocked that he would participate in this and he did so willingly multiple times at more than one venue. I truly wonder if he ever cheated at poker online or live. His stats on full tilt (the site he was a part owner of) were up around 20 million in profits, while he lost about 7 million on Pokerstars. I’m not accusing him but just wondering if there’s any nefarious there. He is obviously a gifted player but has shown a severe weakness for gambling. Seen several videos of him in the pit dropping millions. He knew what he was doing was against the casino TOS. If he’s capable of ripping off a casino why not some poker players? I always admired him until all the full tilt and the cheating scandals came out. Then he disappears and never paid his judgement which doesn’t look good. Of course they are gonna come after there millions. I used to love watching the WSOP and Ivey was one of the main reasons.I am sure he can’t be happy with his current circumstances. Sad IMO.

well prob everyone would have done what he did. the casino should take the fault for not having the right equipment on the table (a good or decent deck of cards) insted of blaming ivey for taking advantage of the bugg lol. but also he could have a word with the dealer or managger and tell them about the problem coz if he notice the cards like that probably others did the same.

They proved he did wrong things on that Casino so it is time to pay.
It is a good example so people can see what not to do.
For him been top player for so many years he can afford it. No big deal.

As it should be, he owes 10 million, better start paying it.
He shouldn't owe zero. Casino lost and couldn't take it they be happy to use any of their various exploits to break a person though..

Here's the bottom line:

Knowing what you know now, would you trust Phil Ivey in your home game? :thumpdown

interesting. a great player. I unaware of the situation in which he is involved, hopefully it will appear favorably for him. I am struck, I will investigate a little of what happens to him.

casinos allow high rollers to change the rules all the time. The Borgata got banged for over 10 mil. They agreed to let him and his partner side sort the cards. This came on the heels of another high roller winning over 2 mil in blackjack. They gut all butt hurt and sued. They come out looking petty and scummy.

I can't believe this story is still going on 8 years later. I wish he would just bink the 1 drop and get even so we can see him playing in the US again.

I'm almost certain that Ivey is not an angel. Every time a guy can beat a casino, except in 'Ocean's Eleven' you have to understand the guys won't laugh and take a beer together.

However, would be very nice and good for poker to watch Ivey hit the bracelet number 11. As a matter of fact... would be an insane thing.

And very possible actually.

The court ruled in favor of the Borgata and he can therefore be garnished but taking all the winnings is a bit extreme. They need to leave the man something to get by on without touching his savings. That being said it must be a terribly tough problem to have. :p

I have been to a whole lot of casinos were , besides the house advantege they cheated.
Whether it be second carding at blackjack, fake shuffles rich in small cards or roulette dealers who know how to play a sector far from were I am placing my chips ( all roulette crupiers know how to do this). Plus subtle ways they disrupt your game , such as picking an argument to you will tilt and do stupid things or try to change the dice when you are on a long streak.
I feel no sympathy for a csino that looses because a player realized the casino had a flaw in its system. I have never heard of a csino having to pay back players because of theyr unfair advantage.
How many millions had he lost before and nobody cried about that?

Phil won that game a couple months ago, but I think I understand what you mean regarding his winnings not going to him.

His lawyer had to be an idiot, put that case in front of a jury and Ivey wins 99 out of a hundred times, there no way the average Joe is going to side with the casino they could have shut down that game if they wanted but they thought over time the house always wins,to bad a player was better then them at gaining the edge using just the tools the house gave him, maybe the house should never get an edge make it fair all the way around, poor babys

I disagree with saying he cheated. The Casino allowed for everything that happened to happen.

If the dealer was told by the casino to not turn the cards and still did it anyway (Which the dealer probably wasn't instructed not to and might of been told to allow it) then that's on the dealer. The exception being if Phil Ivey colluded with the dealer.

If I were to play BlackJack and I asked the dealer to have the dealers face down hole card face up, the dealer does it, the pit boss allows it, and the security team doesn't stop it am I at fault? Is the casino allowed to just let me play and freeroll me? Take my money if I lose sue me if I win.

The Casinos freerolled Phil Ivey IMO.
