So Pokerstars is moving to or into Betfair.
What do others think? Any thoughts?
For me, I'm not really interested in Betfair as a website.
It is very popular in the UK, but more down the lines of betting on horses or football.
Don't really see the big rush for people to play poker there.

I could be wrong....

But wont they still use the PokerStars software in the UK? I dont see any reason for them not to. So is this not more a case of the Betfair players joining the player pool on Stars?

Ah so maybe technically Pokerstars has moved to Betfair, but in poker terms Betfair, Paddypower, and Sky poker have moved into the pokerstars poker site, so nothing actually changes for your pokerstars account, only for you Betfair etc account, which is now in the pokerstars player pool!

Yeah this is what I have just realised....this makes much more sense

Combining player pools. Just like car companies. Whittle down hundreds of car companies to a few. I remember in America when they said The Big Three when it came to american car companies. GM(General Motors), Ford, and Chrysler(currently known as Stellantis).

Mergers and Acquisitions are usually a sign of a healthy or recovering economy. It can also mean an economy going under and another company takes them on, like recently Nano Banc taken over by Sunwest Bank.

Time will tell if this is a good fit or not.

The announcements around this are so badly worded, it's clear as mud. But i think what has been said looks likely, i.e. no real changes for PS players just a few more fish joining the pool?

Stars rewards are disappearing as part of the changeover.

I have tried to deposit on Stars and can't, wonder if this has anything with the move ?

Exactly. It would not "boost player numbers and price pools" to take UK PokerStars players out of the international PokerStars player pool and create a new site only for UK players. It would have the exact opposite effect for PokerStars players in both the UK and elsewhere. The situation is different from the Ontario PokerStars/FanDuel merger, because Ontario is a geofenced market, that had its own separate PokerStars player pool already.

I understand that it seeks to bring together players, increase liquidity and seek bigger prizes. The bigger prizes make it more attractive.

I can see the hesitation. Betfair is known more for sports betting, so it may take time for poker players to embrace it as a poker site.
The player pool and software will be the big factors.

Really? Thats a shame if so, rakeback is low as it is (partly due to recent tax changes)

not interested and they are removing rewards which is the only thing I sign in for, so going to be a goodbye from me

There is also a thread about this on 2+2, and some of the latest posts there seem to confirm, what has already been written here. Apparently Betfair poker players have already been transferred to the PokerStars software and player pool. PokerStars UK will soon close, and players be transferred to the new Betfair home, but poker games, software and usernames will stay the same. If someone have an account on both sites, I guess, the one on PokerStars will be closed, and they will need to withdraw their funds, since Stars dont allow more than one account per player.

It's the other way around .
Flutter , who owns Stars , bought Betfair and the playerpools will merged. Starting with british betfair users since Betfair is predominantly British

Which will basically just mean a few more fishy players on PokerStars, when sportsbettors find their way onto the poker tables.

If you only sign in for rewards, PokerStars will probably do just fine without your "business".

No, that is not true. UK players will continue to receive rewards in the future. [ Source]
The confusion stems from the extensive restructuring by parent company Flutter Entertainment .

PokerStars is a sick joke, its reward scheme at least. You used to get Frequent Player Points that you could use to enter tournaments, trade for cash or merchandise. Now all you get is a ticket, and if you cash 5 times in a row you can win another ticket, one that has real value. Good luck with that. Sick joke.

I’ve seen the news about PokerStars moving. It’s a pretty big change, and I’m curious to see how it will affect players. Hopefully the transition goes smoothly and everything stays easy to use.
