Indeed it is!

I'm just really curious about the math...on the surface it seems like at FTP I'd be paying more rake just to get some rakeback until I move up to 25NL where the structure changes.

But it may not be all that simple, now that I'm considering what you guys are saying.

Ok, now that I'm home and played, as promised:

According to PokerTracker over 5,209 hands (520 raked) at 2NL I've seen $51.35 in rake.

Apparently that's just the rake I've seen, I've only been a part of $12.10 of that, though.

Not exactly sure what you mean by that, but if you're saying you've only contributed to $12 in rake, then that's irrelevant for FT. Unlike most other sites that offer rakeback, FT operates on a dealt rake system. Meaning if you're dealt into the hand -- even if you fold preflop without putting money in -- you still get credit for that pot's rake for purposes of rakeback, i.e. you still get paid rakeback on your portion of the rake even when you don't contribute to the pot.

FT rakeback is a no-brainer -- there is absolutely no reason not to get it if you can, and until you play higher stakes or higher volume, I'm certain that it's much better than what you'll get at Stars.

Oh, very nice.

Well, I got the notice in the mail that my account was now given rakeback...so I guess I'll be giving Full Tilt an honest shot this time.

Wait, is this accurate? Sounds too good to be true...and if there's 4+ people with rakeback at a table, they'd be paying out more in rakeback than they collected!

Yes, it's accurate. You misunderstand the concept. They don't pay each player dealt in 27% of the total rake, they pay them 27% of their share of the total rake (minus any deductions of course, but you get the point). This is the reason FT's RB scheme is so good, especially for tight players -- you can be a break-even or even a modestly losing player, and still profit from RB if you're tight and fold a lot of hands. Whereas a contributed RB method is more favorable for loose players who are constantly putting money in the pot, as their RB is directly proportional to how much money they contribute to the pot.

When a poker room calculates the amount of rakeback you should be paid, they will use the contributed, dealt or shared rakeback method.

Contributed rakeback.

Contributed rakeback is calculated by looking at how much money you have put in to the pot by yourself. If you are on a 30% rakeback deal and you have put $20 in to a $100 pot, you will receive 30% rakeback from the rake taken from the $20 you put in to the pot (30% of $1 rake = 30c).

In a nutshell, you get rakeback from the rake taken from your money only.

Dealt rakeback.

In a dealt rakeback deal, you receive an equal share of rakeback from the total amount of rake paid in each pot. You will receive a share of the rakeback even if you do not play in the pot, you just need to be dealt a hand.

So if there has been a $100 pot with 5 players at the table, $5 rake will be taken and you will have effectively contributed $1 rake ($5 / 5 players = $1 each). You will then receive 30% of that $1 shared rakeback amount, which will be 30c.

In a dealt rakeback deal, you do not have to even play hands to generate rakeback.

Shared rakeback.

Shared rakeback is just like the "dealt rakeback" method, but the difference is that you actually have to enter the pot to get a share of the rakeback. Therefore you will not receive any rakeback if you do not put any money in to the pot.

So if there are 6 players at the table and only 3 player actually play a pot, the rake will be shared equally between those 3 players in the shared method as opposed to it being shared between 6 players in the dealt method.

The shared rakeback method is very rare, if ever used at all these days.

They are griping because it is not always that fast - and in some cases impossible to get rakeback at FT.

Did you guys create an account at Rakebackpros first and then they contacted you or go through FTP support about getting rakeback?

Just curious before I do it, I believe I need to make an account with Rackbackpros first and wait for their response. Just want to make sure. :)

(I've been on FTP for awhile... Did not sign up with an Affilate.)

I created an account at rakebackpros and that was it, I didn't do anything else.

I also signed up without an affiliate and, if relevant, I have never made a deposit.

I did create a rbp account before being granted the elusive rakeback. Not sure if it was needed. It was months before.

I emailed FTP support and said I didn't know if I had signed up through an affiliate but would like to sign up for rakeback if not. They said RBP would contact me in due course, and they did about a week later.

Its' a shame Stars' VIP programs don't really give much of anything until you're playing huge volume...I really prefer Stars over Tilt. =/

I feel the same.

And now that PS has the same high rake as FTP in the minimicros there is really NO reason for low volume small stakes cash players to play at stars.

Yeah, its' frustrating. I prefer Stars site and software, I always seem to run better there (Not because of "omgRNGrigged", the tables are softer or I'm more comfortable, I don't know.)

But then I look at Stars offering me $10 for clearing 750vpp - which is a pretty huge amount for me - versus $10 in rakeback that I can get in a night of 2-tabling Rush and I'm pretty torn.

So let me understand this, I have been playing FT for about a year with no rake back because I thought if you didn't download through a rake back site you don't qualify. Now I read here that you can still get rake back by contacting customer support at FT. Is this right? I have an account with getrakeback already, but didn't download FT through them. Thanks for the help.

I just sent e-mail to getrakeback.com, waiting for response.

That's not really what was said. FT might let you have rakeback through their own associated company, RakeBackPros, if you didn't sign up through an affiliate originally.
