I just recieved the following information from GG Poker per email:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Important Update regarding your GGPoker account

Hi fundiver199,

We’re excited to share an important update specifically for players residing in Sweden. Players residing in Sweden will be receiving a new dedicated home - GGPoker.se. As a consequence, your existing account will no longer be serviced, and you will be required to create a new account on GGPoker.se.

While there will be some changes to how we operate locally, we want to assure you that your experience will remain smooth.

All we’re asking is for you to register on our new dedicated site, once it launches on the 12th of June.

Don’t worry! It’s quick and simple, and you’ll continue enjoying the same amazing poker action and tournaments without interruption.

Important Information:
  • You can still log in to your existing account to withdraw any remaining balance. GGPoker reserves the right to close your existing account three months after the launch of GGPoker.se . After closure, any withdrawal request needs to be made via customer support.
  • Once GGPoker.se goes live, you will no longer be able to deposit funds or participate in games. Registration for any upcoming tournaments will be automatically canceled.
  • Any accumulated Ocean Rewards (Tide Points & GEMs), promotional currency (including C$, T$ and Tickets) and ongoing promotions will be voided after account closure.
  • We urge you to redeem your GEMs, and use up your promotional currency before the 12th of June
----------------------------------------------------------------

So basically players living in Sweden will no longer be able to use their existing (illegal) account on GG Poker after 12.06.2026, and any bonuses, tickets etc. still remaining after that date will be nullified. But instead we will be able to create a new (legal) account, which will mean no more bonuses, freerolls or promotions. But in return withdrawals directly to a swedish back account should be possible, like it is on other legal sites. And should we ever have some kind of dispute with GG Poker, we can seek assistance from swedish authorities rather than those in Malta or some other obscure offshore location.

Under swedish regulations we play in international player pools, but there are rules restricting promotions, deposit limits and so on. The latest addition to the rules is, that deposits can no longer be made using a credit card but only a debit card. Basically the rules attempt to limit gambling problems without preventing people from playing in a healthy way.

So players from Sweden will still be playing the same games against the same opponents. And if I have to guess, I would say, that the legality of the site will likely bring in more recreational players, since they typically dont want to bother with complicated deposit and withdrawal methods. In fact I might actually give GG Poker a try myself. Until now I have had an account there but not used it.

Well that sounds good news I'd say.

Once you get passd the slightly annoying features and kind of forget they are there, I'm sure you will be smashing it on GG @fundiver199

Yes I agree. I think, online poker should be legal and regulated. So when a country actually have laws in place, that allow sites to operate legally, if they follow certain rules, then they should definitely do so. As I said already, it makes it much more inviting for recreational players to come into online poker, when its legal, and there are no hassles with deposits or withdrawals. Much smaller sites like 888 Poker, Unibet and PartyPoker (who left again) have operated legally in Sweden for many years as have of course PokerStars, so I am not sure, why it has taken GG Poker this long. But better late than never I guess.

I dont think, GG Poker will become my main site, since they dont offer any proper SnGs. But I am definitely going to check out the "new" swedish site and see, if there is a welcome package (the only promotion allowed in Sweden), and then try to play some MTTs there just to try something different.

In Sweden, you only pay tax on cash withdrawals, not on what you still have in your ggaccount. The more countries, the better.

GG ar the masters at attracting the recreationals too, with country specific games etc, so watch out for them especially as they are really only juts entering the market. They had a lot of radio and internet adverts in the UK not too long ago, they were really pushing natnally way more than I've seen any other pokr site advertise
