Hey,

I took part at a 22$ Mistery Bounty game at Pokerstars, part of the New Year Series.

I must say, huge and huge mistakes they have when it comes to the payouts.

Please, tell your opinion about it!
.
.
.
1st: Bubble - Trouble... Player A hit QQ and Player B hit AA. They went to preflop all-ins. Player B covers Player A, and eliminates the smaller stack. However!!! With the current hands the bubble was over, and player A even tho gone eliminated, still reached the money.
...Here's the twist, you should all pay attention, and Pokerstars just made itself a backdoor to runaway and not pay their players in this exact situation:
"In this tournament, Mystery Bounties can only be won once players are in the money. Good luck!" ...Which means, technically this player ended up in the money, so we were in the money, tho PS count it as a bubble's last party. Strange, huh?!

2nd: Disrespectful Winner Bounty... Right. The biggest bounty was 5K. And the first place gets 13.5K without bounty. You can check it, most of the times the 1st place's prize and the biggest ko achieved is very close to each other. Here... 270%. Insane percentage to the normal 1st prize. And the fact, that the biggest ko is drawned by luck(!!!) makes it disaster. The next biggest ko's were awarded to 2 players(!!!) 1K, which makes the percantage 1350%. It's insanely low, almost nothing. The next in the line, most casual prizes were 91.78$, so 4x to your buy-in. Well. Imagine you reach 1st from 11.133 players and your biggest bounties worthy 91.78$.

3rd: Underpayed Bounties... How can a bounty actually be underpaid? Well, the other two category were: 1.02$, 0.22$. Remember, the buy-in was 22$, you had to reach the money which is basically starting from your buy-in, and you just ko-d someone for cents. If you think it's a lie, let me show these pictures, telling everything.

I had fun, tho overthough it logically after went out, this whole pay-out system needs to be changed! Maybe post like these can help Pokerstars to improve and do these kind of tournaments with from another perspectives...

actually looks someone cynical is in charge of those lol.
There is no sense in underpaid bounties. no sense at all. only reason I can come up with is that trolls working at PS who find a 22 cent or 1$ bounty funny in such a game xD

Maybe one day PStars will figure out how to do Mystery Bounty games correctly.

It would feel robbed if I win a 22 cent bounty @ 22$ buyin even if it was the first hand in the tournament. Maybe one day pokerstars will start to target their competitors again.
With supplying things that are actually cooler than anywhere else. I wish that by a lot. Right now pokerstars is clunky in many ways and for german players it's even worse. No promos, no rakeback, no freerolls, no home games, nothing. Feels more like a beta version than an actual product.

Thank you for this interesting thread, Jani!

Definitely not making me keen on trying the Mystery Bounty at PS right now. 🤣

I have mainly played MB on 888 so far and usually the lowest bounty category is around 1/3-1/2 half of the buyin, like in a regular PKO.

But definitely not only 1% or 5%. That's definitely ridiculous. And not like it's a leftover but several hundred players get those bounties.

They need to make the payout structure for the bounties more smooth.

Thanks for all the contributive comments. :)

My only realistic solution can be to convert each prize-pools like the same way

As you see, this time 1 player get 5K and 2 players get 1K. And that's all.

With that way that I suggested as bold, 7 players could get 4 and 1 get 5 digit-numers ko's. Which is an improvement, five more people can have better split, and even higher bounties too!
In addition, the lowest ko in a proper bounty game is 5$, so it would be increased to 27$. Improvement as well, and it means it would be worthy to play these games...

The other aspect could this method solve is the bubble confusion. This time 25 players were eliminated in the money, where the last hand happened in the bubble.

That mystery bounty scheme is not good, not playing it at all... well i also don't like regular bounty games, but they kind of make more sense, unlike that "mystery hystery lottery" ponzi scheme

At the start of the tournament they did not calculate the prizes of the mysteries. It's only be done once you reach the money.
In addition you are not able to see the retribution of the bounties once the tournament is done - just while it's running.

And as it's a really new type of MTT at Pokerstars, that was my first time to manage to see how it works. So it was a first expression about the different payouts, which probably needs to be changed if they wanna make to them a great reputation I believe.

It should simply follow the usual bounty system and PokerStars will stump up an extra 'mystery bounty'!

That would be a new type of MTT which I would welcome...:)

Not a bad idea :) Maybe some tickets to selected tables or whatsoever. They might improve as time goes by. :)

This would be a good way to add excitement, make the bounty time a mystery too.

The could have say 1/10 of the early KO's before the money are also a mystery bounty, so sometimes early on you can at least get a win!! I do like the added prize idea too, of course, haha!!

regarding the 1st moment: synchronous mode is in progress and if a player with a stack smaller than the player is eliminated, then he automatically gets into the prizes

The main Sunday bounties are a bit more interesting! But it drew me in and I got knocked out shortly after.

Perhaps the biggest mistake in the Mystery Bounty format is overestimating the impact of a bounty when there are a large number of players, when the maximum bounty has not yet been paid out. The value can be extracted from the other side here, as players will act too loosely in an attempt to hit the big jackpot early on.You're just out of luck.

Thank you for this comment. :)

It looks like a valid split! :)

May I ask what buy-in is this?

This was $109 buy in. I used my power path level 4 ticket so got in for free. I only won $175 in the end as I didn’t knock anyone out. I went for glory with AJ suited with half my stack to aim for the $50k bounty!
