They probably don't have enough players to sustain anything other than holdem.

What a shame .... sounds like P Stars is soon going to be unimportant .Every time the site gets sold it loses a good chunk of the original character.

I had no idea, these games even existed, and likely they were seldomly played, which is why, they were removed. But still sad of course, that SnGs seem to be on a decline with no end in sight.

Yeah probably... although last year before the rake changes both the 9-man Omaha H/L and 6-man 5 Card Draw SnGs were SUPER popular, running almost 24/7 at two different buy-in levels.

They also had Stud 8-mans back then but they seem to have removed it too... probably awhile ago.

The rake hike in 2024 for single table SnGs was a super stupid move, which has also killed off a lot of the NLH games. All regular speed games are gone, all KO games are gone etc. I mostly play 32-man On Demand games these days with a few Fifty/50 and 9-mans thrown in from time to time.

I miss their freerolls. I started playing poker there and I remember of getting $0.30 in my first try (2023): this was what made me excited to learn more about the game and to, consequently, evolve my skills.

Hopefully, they will turn the freerolls back to make new players come in and old players come back.

We see that even maschines cost them too much.
Server time is also as costly as human resources, which PS reduced this year vastly (reducing paid pros, machine support bots).
No real marketing in many markets.
The decline goes on.

Still the second largest site by a wide margin though. And the largest site (GG Poker) never had any proper SnGs to begin with.

Sngs are one step closer to being non existent.

Its crazy to think in the olden days you could play as many sngs as you wanted at once up to the $16s.

Yes its pretty sad. Even on a site like ACR Poker, which did not raise the rake to unreasonable levels, traditional single table SnGs (6-man and 8-man) are dying a slow death. Only On Demand games and Spins are running frequently.

PokerStars is done for; it’s an outdated site that’s living off its past reputation. Its days are numbered. RIP.

I don't really understand why stuff like this gets cancelled. It's not like there is substantial overhead like in a casino where each square foot literally has an expense associated with it.

Thats true. When they cancel NLH SnGs the official explanation is, that they want to reduce waiting time by having people play fewer games, which then run more often. But it seem fairly unlikely, that people playing these alternative game types will now suddenly begin to play NLH SnGs instead. So why not just keep those games, regardless how seldomly they ran.

It's true to a point. With that said EVERY business looks to cut costs regardless of how little they are in the end. Pokerstars obviously wasn't making any money from them SnG's running compared to the cost of shutting them down. If something doesn't make money and only costs you money there's no point in keeping it around.

Cheers!!!

It might come as a shock to certain members of this forum, but sites dont make a living from offering freerolls. And PokerStars can probably survive just fine without the $5.83, you paid in rake over a period of 8 years, should you decide to no longer play there.

Nobody plays SnGs of other variants anyway, therefore it is easier to offer only NLH.
Let's be honest: even I, who like mixed games, never played a single SnG of them.

I guess most players play nlh , so not many play othe games, maybe no e nowadays , don't know for sure . I really hate waiting countless time for a game lobby to be filled with enough players and the game to start . That was and is sth I hate . So I understand [his dsicion by pokerstars .
