Why I'm Thinking Of Quitting: An Essay

Yeah i guess everybody get good and bad days, the idea is to be able to recognize the bad ones soon enough so that you can stop before losing a lot of money.

My account is at zero now and i'm waiting a few more days before going back. As you, i began and the first week had 3x my deposit amount. Another week and its at 0.

That's poker.

It's a little depressing to hear that I just got lucky for a month or so and getting KK after KK busted is to be expected at times.

Not only is it to be expected, but KK is supposed to lose to just about any hand (even lower pocket pairs and hands like 2-3o) between 10-20% of the time, and it's supposed to lose to AKs about 40% of the time... The great thing about it is that about 60% of the time they are supposed to hold up, so if you keep playing them right, in the long run, you'll be a big winner.

I know it's frustrating, I'm on the same road you are - and I haven't even been on it as long - but you really have to try and keep a level head if you want things to pan out, so far the luck hasn't been with me for the past few weeks I've been giving a go at it...
I've had the best hand cracked a few dozen times when all the money goes in.

I've had boats lose to bigger boats that catch-up, I've had nut flushes loose runner-runner to quads (pocket 2's pushed all in when I hit the A-high flush on the flop).. I've also seemed to only manage the golden cards when it is least profitable... I flopped a straight flush and had NO action, I flopped back-to-back full boats in the SB and BB, and got a dollar for each... I flopped a 7-7-8 board when I held 7-7 and I couldn't get any action, and I didn't even bet hard at any of those hands, the opponents just didn't have ANYTHING in their hands and didn't try to bluff at it.

But I'm a little more used to the bad-rolls in a skill game than I would think most new poker players are. I spent the last few years of my life playing pool as a means of income, and if you think luck doesn't factor in when you're playing short races of 9-ball, you don't know anything about the game.

OH.... MY.... GOD.....

So then I go play a cash game to minimise donkage. I play on the $0.25-$0.50 to minimise the minimisation.

I'm six hands in when THIS HAPPENS

Lol Scooter_10 sure seems to run lucky, just watched them take out a ton of players in the bronze freeroll, jamming with nothing and then hitting from nowhere. Took my chips when I went all in with Ace Jack on a board that was 9 9 Jack, Scooter boy calls with q 7 off no flush drawer so a two outer for a straight or the lone queen left in the deck, river comes queen, wasn't even mad or surprised having watched them run like that for ten minutes straight. 888Poker rewards dumb plays for sure.

You could be a decent writer for fantasy books. That post was from almost 2 (!) decades ago so highly doubt u saw one of those players in a 888 bronze freeroll today lmfao.

But im happy to be proven otherwise with a screenshot or other evidence.

Just to play devils advocate for a moment, ahem, I'm sure Scooter_10 is most likely at Bronze level!! 😆

Hopefully OP has decided on quitting by now, since he had 19 years to make his decision...

Well thanks for the warm welcome, I guess having called me a liar and being incorrect you will now be terribly apologetic and admit what a really poor example of a person you are?

Yes i apologize to you. Lots of similar posts here on the forum where people grab out very old threads and answer to very old posts. This case is really rare and i cant believe that's really the same guy but apparently it is.

I would have taken just the apology, given you want to try and justify leaping on a new member without doing your homework first and nobody else on the site has spoken to say it is unusual behaviour, I will infer that the site is full of and welcomes bullying and will take my leave.

I was not justifying anything i just explained to you what lead me to this conclusion. I guess others felt the same and that's probably why noone said something or even agreed with me with emoticons or by joking. This has nothing to do with bullying.

Cant say more than sorry. Good luck to you whatever your decisions are.

Wow, this is pretty incredible....impressive to find a thread from so long ago with a minimal reference to Scooter_10 in it especially when he doesn't seem to be a member, or certainly not current.
Give us a little longer, you'll find CC very friendly overall I assure you.

On the positive side, engaging in any thread with some back and forth gets you closer to Silver level, and way better freerolls 🙂

This is the first time in 7 years, that I have seen someone bump an old thread for any reason other than not noticing, how old it was. Thats why I made a joke about it. As SpanRmonka say, if you decide to stick around, you will find, that this is generally a very friendly forum.

I play on GG poker nowadays and to be honest I basically deposit close to nothing so that means I have to build a bankroll from the daily freebies. What I encountered many times now is that I'm able to to build up until a certain point between 30-50$ and after that I just get an unending streak of bad beats and I get tilt and waste away. This is a vicious circle at the moment which I'm trying to break? Does anybody has some advice on this?

It reminds me when I went on a 10$ tourney after multiple bad beat on 1$ Hyper PLO, and the way how they played on 10$ tourney was the exact same. I was very much surprised but after that I also got very normal tables on 1$ tournaments too. So at this point its safe to say for me that its more like the players at your table is the question not the stake you are playing on.

The advice would be to acknowledge how hot u were running when u were building up to 50 dollars with that freebie. Thats like 200 buy-ins + on that level. Then u need to realize that luck will turn at some point. The amount u got in ur account is completely irrelevant.
