I understand the Australian government made poker illegal by law?

Or has there been a change of this regulation?

It's not illegal on a federal level though national states of Australia have own laws which apply only regional. Just like with our Bundesländer.
I may be wrong but that's the last thing I've heard from that topic
My suspicion is that partypoker won't return because of that .

It's possible that partypoker is not available at all in Australia but that must have been either partypokers decision or partypoker didn't get to renew their license in Australia .

Im Vienna we had WPTs and EPTs but since the cardrooms had to close, there is no interest in returning for them .
The only place you can play poker are the casinos Austria and they don't put an effort in to get these prestigious tournaments back.

I urge Australian poker players not to give up hope. Your game is not dead and you will continue your campaign for safe online poker. My call for a safe, regulated online poker market in Australia remains the only option that provides freedom for the players, revenue for the government, and protection for those in need. Let's hope for the best, hope dies last, you'll be returned, but not so fast. I hope common sense is still present in this country.

I read the comment I will also root for you Australia residents so that poker rooms come back to you because players who made money on poker can only do what they could do, and now if there is no poker, I think to return to your country and your region poker rooms I really hope everyone is patient:)

I really don't know why they do this around the world.
Example, in my country (Brazil) casinos are illegal by law, based on the culture of religion and vices of 50 years ago, as if the state knows where a citizen prefers to spend his money. However, the ''jogo do bicho'' (a kind of illegal parallel lottery) takes place throughout the country and moves millions without paying taxes.

I didn't know they'd left. I thought the only problem was the USA and those domain seizures a decade ago.

Government banned all offshore pokerrooms to "protect" it's citizens and apparently are banning online poker in general

As others have said, the issue in Australia is legislation. So it would make more sense to ask "will online gambling become legal in Australia". If yes then I am sure, many sites would love to operate there. But otherwise no. Apparently the law in Australia is so strict, that even a site like ACR prefer to not accept aussie players.

It all depends on your country's legislation. It is not up to PokerStars and partypoker - they will never return unless your country makes it legal for them to do so.

Same reason . Because online gambling is restricted in Greece.
Maybe also because Greece is broke 🤣
