WOW - I think they're promoting McGregor-Edgar already. There's no other reason to be making such a big hairy deal of him right now...

Great card. I wish I didn't bet on it though. I put way too much faith in Mendes.

2 week notice and he came into that fight with a losing mindset. He went into the fetal position with only 10 seconds left like he only came to take a check. *sigh*

I did very little betting on this card, couple of very small bets on prelims that didn't get up, then Lawler SU and over 3.5 rounds both won.

Well I ended up winning a few $$s overall thanks to Lawler being the dog. McGregor still didn't do anything we haven't seen him do before imo. He was taken down pretty much at will and he took a shitload of punishment on the ground. But like we've seen in the past he hits HARD.

Both Frankie Edgar and Aldo will beat Conor. I hope the hype train is still going strong when he fights them. Easy money to be made betting wise. I think Mendes would have won if he had a full camp. It seemed like he went from winning to having absolutely no gas left in the tank. I guess fighting on a couple weeks notice will do that to you.

It was a good win for Conor, He proved he is one of the best in his division but I don't see how he gets past Edgar or Aldo. There is a good chance full camp Mendes beats him to.

Great fight between Robbie and Rory. Both very tough.

1-Chad Mendes VS Conor McGregor.Very Good Fight .

McGregor is super Cool or Crazy . Win By K.O .

2-Lawler vs Macdonald .Realy hard fight. I hope Macdonald is ok .

Lawler punch hard on his face.

3-Bermudez vs Stephens .Good Fight .Stephens win by K.O. (flying knee)

4- Nelson vs Thach .Easy win for Nelson on the ground.(rear choke).

5-Pickett vs Almeida good fight. Almeida win by K.O (flying knee).

6-Brown vs Means . great macht up . Good Fight .

I Prefer Means . Nice win for Brown by Submission.

Watching the main event was like watching UFC 1: two one dimensional fighters on the cage. Mendes took Conor down 3 out of 4 times, so Conor's wrestling defense is a joke, and Chad was accepting those spinning kicks pretty easily.

After ufc 189, I'm positive Conor has no chance against Aldo.

Interesting how many people are writing this off as "yeah, but Chad didn't have a full camp..." after the fight, when so many people were saying "Chad doesn't need a full camp, he's always in shape, he was already training for Conor" before the fight.

I'm also not sure how anyone watches the Mendes fight and then comes away convinced that Aldo will beat McGregor. McGregor showed that his takedown defense clearly isn't up to scratch (side note: where's all the people letting him off the hook for not having a full camp to work his takedown defense... that argument surely works both ways?). But Aldo isn't a wrestler, it's going to be a standup fight, and McGregor showed that his standup is just as good as we thought it'd be. So Aldo definitely beats McGregor now because... ?!?

Yeah, I agree. I don't think Aldo necessarily beats MacGregor.

Aldo has shown in the past he has a very strong wrestling and top game.

I think it ends up being a good fight but I believe Aldo is going to take the W for sure.

Aldo vs Conor is going to be a fight between the best MMA fighter in the world and BJJ black belt against an one dimensional fighter whose ground game is notoriously ridiculous.

Any mediocre BJJ brown belt would've submitted Conor last night.

I've said this before, but for a BJJ black belt, Aldo sure doesn't seem keen on taking any fights to the ground. Case in point: his only loss was by submission, and he only has two submission wins (vs 14 KO and 9 dec). And one of those submission wins was by "soccer kicks".

So I'll just respectfully restate that I expect Aldo v McGregor to be mostly contested on the feet

Unrelated: apparently McGregor and Urijah Faber will coach opposite each other on the next season of The Ultimate Fighter. Anyone else seeing their backstage "scuffle" at the weigh-ins in a slightly different light now?

And apparently no, they won't be fighting at the end of the season.

Faber coaching TUF makes sense but McGregor seems a terrible fit. I mean he'll draw viewers which the show needs desperately but seems like it will take him away from his own training quit a bit.

There is a difference between being in shape and being in fight shape. No-one can be in fight shape all the time. Even if you keep in shape between fights. Two weeks isn't enough to prepare for a 5 round title fight. There is a reason Mendes was going for the choke when he wasn't in the best position to do so. He knew he was getting tired and that if the fight went into later rounds he would have no chance in winning. So he went for the choke to try and end it while he still had a little ( very little ) energy to do so.

Preparing for a five round fight vs a striker and then getting a wrestler isn't as bad as having to fight a five round fight on two weeks notice when you were preparing to fight no-one. That is why people are not letting Conor off the hook for that. Although it should be taken into account.

That being said .. I still thought Mendes was going to win and was wrong. It was a good win for Conor.

Aldo is a seasoned fighter. Who has been champion for a very long time. I will be very surprised if he can't take down Conor ( a guy with very questionable tdd ). Frankie Edgar will put Conor on his back every round and that is where he will be staying until the bell rings.

It doesn't matter if he can take Conner if he doesn't try to take Conner down. I expect that fight to be a stand-up slugfest and in that type of fight Conner will always have a real shat at winning.

Sometimes fights that fans expect to be slugfest end up being the opposite of that. No one really knows until the time comes. My money is on Aldo going for a take down if he feels he is losing the stand up battle. And maby even going for one regardless.

Conors last fight didn't make me think .... he will be a challenge for Aldo. ... I was more on the lines of thinking. Conor should count his lucky stars he is interim champion.

That was a great Main Card. Fights were amazing.

McGregor ground game from his back was nothing out of this world, but he defended both guillotine attempts from Mendes in a very good way, who, like everyone else at Team Alpha Male, is great at that. And it was just after his escape from that, when standing (Mendes must have been tire at this point and didn't allow him to recover), that he beat Mendes to win by KO.

I believe Conor will beat aldo with ease. Aldo opted out of the schedule fight after doctors cleared him and Conor was just in his head. Mcgregor is going to do the same thing leading up to the eventually undisputed championship fight and Aldo will be too distracted and lose.

Friggin Mendes was manhandling Conor on the ground with only 2-3 weeks of training. While Conor had a full training camp!

Fully healed & trained Aldo would put up a fight against Conor.
