Japan does not want to cancel the Olympic games in Tokyo. A lot of costs and need a profit despite the pandemic. I support the country of Canada and hope that all countries will make a similar decision for the benefit of the health of the planet's inhabitants.

A lot of money to be made and lost with those Olympics, hopefully they find a cure soon

Many athletes get sick. In the world, it is forbidden to gather the public at stadiums. Japan dreams of a second Harbour?

It is really unfortunate. So many people love the Olympics. So many young athletes spend every waking moment training for and aspiring to compete in the Olympics. I understand and support the decision but wish that it didn't need to be taken.

Synopsis said:
They pulled out of the olympics, as did Australia.
The Olympics have already been postponed. Why was it done? Or do you want to say that because of Canada they postponed the Olympics?

They pulled out before it was postponed. I figure it would have been postponed regardless even if no one pulled out.

This suggests that Canadians were scared and their sports committee should be fired.
And now it is interesting to me for what the author of the topic expresses gratitude to Canadians ???

Refusing to participate in the Olympic games before deciding to host the Games themselves has become a great example for other countries in fighting the virus and taking care of the health of their citizens. Canada is the first country to do this. What's not clear?

An example for whom ?? for what??? Everyone already knew that there would be no games and were waiting for official confirmation. But Canadians and other countries need to stand out and say that we will not participate. We will not participate in games which WILL NOT PLAY. Games will not be CARL !!! Think before you write something.

I live in Belarus. We are the only country in Europe where sporting events continue. We can also go out, shops are open and there is no quarantine. You can read about us in the news. Still have questions ???

And what does Canada have to do with it ???

The way I read the first post was Canada had the foresight to protect their athletes from any part of the Covid-19 virus by pulling out of the 2020 Olympics? And yes, there is no guarantee the virus will be under control by that time. They just happened to be one of the first to announce they were not going to the Olympics. Or am I way off there?!

That's what I'm talking about. This was before the games were canceled.

Your football championship must be closed. You are the only ones left. Or do you consider yourself immortal and that vodka with onions will save everyone?🙄

I'm pretty sure your country has same mindset not just them :bebored:

In the current situation in the world, it is not necessary to hold international competitions. It's not safe. The virus doesn't last forever. One day everything will go back to normal.

I can't be responsible for the opinions of every person in my country. I have a different lifestyle.

Yes, are you proud of this fact? If so, why?

to what extent need to dislike your athletes in order to continue sporting events in the midst of an epidemic?:frown:
perhaps this is a demonstration of universal security.😱

I understand that Canadians were the first to refuse to participate. but why should we be thankful. ???? fifa canceled the champions league but no one said a word of support. everyone accepted this as the norm. but as soon as Canada stated that it was not going to the Olympic Games, it should be noted as an achievement.

I think we would (or should) be thankful if they all cancelled given the global state of emergency. I suppose we could say it was a good move on the part of the NBA, FIFA, MLB, MLS, etc. however, all of these clubs or associations are not worldwide sports competition. So, I am surmising the reason Canada (and it could have been any other country for that matter) was mentioned was due to making the announcement first for one of the biggest global sporting events. Sound right?!
