If you get KK after a bad stretch, do you just play it normally or does the previous action ever get in your head?
Hell yes, just play it normally. At normal stack depths just open it for your regular sizing from any seat at the table. Post-flop just watch out for Aces, wet boards and large bets that rep 2-pair or set.
Most often it is an overpair, so play it like any strong non-nut hand. KK is amazing!
The main lesson here is that streaks are meaningless. If you take a bad beat or a suckout with KK 2, 3, 4, 5 times in a row, this does not change the
odds of KK winning or losing the next time you have it. Stick to your guns and keep playing it.
If we are losing consistently with hands like KK and everyone's fave whipping boy AK, it's one of two reasons or a little of both.
1) Bad luck. If this is the case, over time the good luck will even out. Don't worry, there will be flops with an A AND a K and an A will pay us big time. There will be many hands where Villain barrels his top pair Q or J into our overpair. There will be times when 77 calls us down on a 5J5 flop and we show him bad news. These will be wonderful times.
2) We're overplaying or underplaying our KK. We get excited and bet too large or jam too deep pre and get coolered or sucked out. Or we get too cute, try to limp-trap it too deep and run into 2-pair or set in a multiway pot. Don't do these things. Just open it normal and post-flop play it according to poker sense - you know, position, board texture and Villain action/tendencies.
