But I’ve heard some players ignore payouts and just focus on making the best decisions.

Do you adjust your play based on payouts or not really?
I certainly pay attention to the prizes, but nevertheless, I always try to make the right and informed decisions first. This is my number 1 priority.

I certainly begin to concentrate more on payouts and attempt to move up the ladder as competitions get closer to the money. It alters the way I play, maybe more than it should at times. Maintaining an aggressive attitude without being afraid is difficult for me. For example, I dont want to throw my stack right before a pay jump, but I also dont want to make a terrible fold just to stay alive.

You will face at some point to choose between a big all in and a fold which could get you into the money. my experiences is to look at he money the so called RNG will not help you on the Bubble if your the smaller stack. I won like 1 out of 5 hands starting with the better hand 3 times pairs and 2 times AKs and AKo. i could have got into the money every time by a simple fold. I tested that on other occasions like folding even KK got into money and loose the second hand after bubble... at least got paid. In the other way being the bigger stack I won with 8-10s once and a 6,7s once against AQ and TT the flushes where every Vere. and that's just my recent memories.
So yes you want to play the best you can but reality and best play for you its relative to the situation.

Yes. I wait to come in money in most cases. That is sometimes very hard if I get goooood pocket cards, because I loose with this cards in most cases.

Yes, I think so, especially since my goal when I play tournaments is to finish in the money (ITM), so for me, it's important to associate payouts with the decisions I'm making.

When I'm at the final table, I do pay close attention to the prizes, because each prize jump is a lot of money. I always concentrate on my game, but I also look at the prizes.
